The Vasilkoist Creed
In the storied city of Rem, where ancient stones whisper tales of divine wars and celestial guardians, the Vasilkoist Creed holds sway, a testament to faith's enduring power. Rooted in the miraculous defense against a demonic siege, this religion has shaped the Drauream Hegemony from its very foundations.
The origins of the Creed are steeped in legend. During the darkest days of the old capital, when daemon armies laid siege, the city of Rem was on the brink of destruction. From this despair rose a champion, the Heavenly Warrior, sent by the Archangels themselves. For seven days and nights, the Warrior fought, a beacon of divine wrath and protection. On the morning of the eighth day, the foes were vanquished, but the Warrior vanished, leaving behind a city in awe and a legacy of salvation. Inspired by these events, Vasilkoist Drauream, a witness to the miracle, penned the Ways of Radiance, detailing the virtues and powers of the Archangels who had intervened. His writings would not only save a city but also birth a religion that spanned continents.
The Creed venerates seven Archangels, each associated with a heavenly virtue and mirrored against a counterpart in the form of a Daemon Lord of sin. These divine beings are not only worshiped but are deeply integrated into the daily life of the faithful. Each day of the week is named after one of these celestial guardians, marking time with a rhythm of devotion. From Raziel’s humility to Cadiel’s temperance, the virtues guide all aspects of life, from governance to personal conduct.
The hierarchical structure of the Vasilkoist Creed is both complex and deeply rooted in its sacred texts. At the pinnacle stands the High Cleric, residing in Rem, the spiritual heart of the faith. Below the High Cleric, a council of forty-nine clerics—seven devoted to each Archangel—oversees the theological and administrative duties. These clerics ensure the purity of dogma and the uniformity of worship across the Hegemony and beyond.
Beneath this council, the religious order branches further into specialized roles:
-Radiant Keepers are scholars and guardians of the Ways of Radiance. They interpret the holy texts and maintain the lore of the Archangels, educating the faithful and ensuring that the divine messages remain untainted by time or misinterpretation.
-Heralds of the Archangels serve as the Creed’s emissaries, traveling between temples and beyond the Hegemony’s borders. They spread the teachings, mediate theological disputes, and reinforce the bonds between distant congregations.
-Servants of Light, the most numerous, attend to the day-to-day operations of the temples. They aid in rituals, care for the sacred sites, and help orchestrate the vast festivals that honor the Archangels.
Temples dedicated to the Vasilkoist Creed are as numerous as they are varied, each consecrated to a specific Archangel. While every temple honors all seven divine beings, the primary Archangel influences the temple’s architecture, rituals, and the focus of its clergy. In Rem, the Grand Heavenly Temple stands as a monumental tribute to all seven Archangels, its spires reaching towards the heavens as if in perpetual supplication and thanks.
The Creed’s influence extends beyond the spiritual, shaping laws and societal norms. The separation of church and state, initiated by Placidia Drauream’s decision to move the civic capital, was a pivotal moment in the Creed’s history. It lessened the direct political power of the High Cleric within the Hegemony but affirmed Rem's status as a sacred city, unblemished by temporal concerns and wholly devoted to spiritual governance.
Annually, the Creed commemorates the siege of Rem with the Festival of Divine Deliverance, a spectacle of faith that attracts pilgrims from across the world. The festival not only reenacts the legendary battles but also serves as a profound reminder of the Archangels' protection and the virtues they espouse. It is during this festival that the High Cleric addresses the multitude, recounting the tales of old and imparting wisdom for the future.
Yet, challenges persist. As the Creed grows, so do interpretations of its teachings. Some scholars argue for a more metaphorical understanding of the Ways of Radiance, while traditionalists cling to literal interpretations. Debates over the nature of the Archangels—whether they are divine entities or personifications of moral truths—stir scholarly and public discourse alike. Worse still are those that see the Archangels not as divine protectors, but as thieving usurpers for the true divine of the world; the Daemon Lords. These Cults of Daemonism spread the idea that the Archangels are false idols and that the truly divine beings of the world are the Daemon Lords that many orthodox clergy believe to be nothing more then powerful Daemons aspiring to godhood.
The Vasilkoist Creed still holds immense power over nations and individuals in the ever-changing world of Raelvo, where new lands are being constantly fought for. However, recent discoveries of ancient relics and ruins on the newly discovered continent of Kho'as have brought about dissenting beliefs and divisions within the Creed. These differences in interpretation have led to heated debates among traditionalists who strictly adhere to the High Cleric's teachings, and those who are open to exploring alternative views of faith. The future of this ancient belief system remains uncertain as it faces both internal challenges and external threats from demonic forces. Only time will tell if the Creed can withstand these trials or if it will crumble under pressure.
Mythology & Lore
As the legend goes during the age of sorrows the great city of Rem was besieged by an army of Daemons, monsters, and degenerates hellbent on razing the young metropolis. As the defenders were on the brink of defeat and with all hope appearing lost, a ray of divine light beamed down upon the gate, driving back the horde poised to break through it. On the eve of the eighth day after uncountable heroic feats, the last of the would be besiegers were laid before the city slain and sent back to the pits of darkness that had spawned them.
