Radio Waves
Overcome by capitalistic greed, erratic weather, disease, and nuclear warfare, homo sapiens finally wiped themselves off the planet they called home. Dangling in the balance of extinction, the richest of the rich fled to their secret underwater city, Sisoa. Having to adapt to life at the bottom of the ocean without the comforts the sun gave, humans evolved into a new species, calling themselves saerenes.
Aesec is a siren wir in a dead end job at the Communications Division of Sisoa. In a desperate attempt to rise above his station, Aesec starts a secret project, trying to see if he can use old human radio towers to send messages up to land. He's so sure that there's got to be higher lifeforms up there, but he has no way to prove it besides either going up there himself (extremely illegal) or continuing to try and contact Terrafirma in any way he can (slightly illegal).
Saĝo has been taught since birth that his species is the last of the higher lifeforms left on Tero. Akranoj are prideful of their strength, especially physical, for being able to overcome the horrors that humans faced in the Granda Ĥaoso. But Saĝo would rather demonstrate his strength with his brain than his body, often times venturing into ruins of human buildings to find trinkets and gadgets to play with. When Saĝo finds the shell of an old cellphone almost perfectly intact, he doesn't know that the little light box will change his life, and the life of his people, forever.
