Squiffles
Questing is tough, it seems!
Squiffles is a well-known catfolk martial artist and adventurer. He is the brother of another well-known catfolk named Squaffles, who owns and operates a very popular restaurant in the Feywild known as Squaffle House.
History
Like many catfolk from his home of Cat's Park, in the shadow of Frostfire Towers , Squiffles grew up hearing stories of great adventurers, many of whom were catfolk like them. As he and his brother grew up and were trained in the many duties that members of the village were responsible for, they were discovered to have a gift for the combat arts. Training in the ways of the monk, both developed their own style of fighting. Squiffles chose to follow the Way of the Open Hand, specializing in a rare style known as Pangainoon.
Squiffles and his brother Squaffles would go on adventures together, many at the behest of the the town elders. As the brothers experienced the wider world and developed their own tastes and abilities, Squiffles would go on to find a deep connection with the coast, and through that, learn to channel the healing powers of nature through his paws, making him a truly versatile catfolk. His paws could harm or heal, as the need arose, and Squiffles gained renown for both.
Friend of Fluff
In his travels, Squiffles came to adventure in the Feywilds along side his brother Squaffles. It was here that he met with a pair of young women: Amiat and Kethrad. These young ladies would help Squiffles play a pivotal part in the Time-Shattered Osenia Campaign, protecting many of those who could not themselves fight. Together the three won great battles, saving thousands of lives and ensuring Squiffle's place in history.
Nowadays, Squiffles still prides himself on being a "good kitty" and friend. He visits his brother Squaffles often, usually at Squaffle House. Whether he's regaling kittens with stories of his adventures, speaking in cat puns, trying new cuisines, or bringing new meaning to the term "loafing," Squiffles is a well-liked and well-respected adventurer.
The Incredibly True Autobiographical Adventures of Squiffles, the Glorious
Squiffles has had some marvelous adventures, and has written them down to share with his kith and kin.
The Staff of Creation
It’s warm out, the icy shores have thawed enough for ships to drop anchor at the village’s port, bringing with them spices, fruits, and Adventurers. The Kittens especially enjoy the visitors’ tales, the young cats being curious about the outside world and aspiring to be adventurers themselves when they become older. A man in a suit and tophat carrying a cane steps off the boat and is soon greeted. “Welcomeow to Cat’s Park!” He chuckles while petting one of the kittens. “Is monsieur Squiffles home?” “Ah! You know big bro Squiff?” The little ones move this visitor towards the town’s Guild Hall. “Squiff! This guy wants to see you!” Squiffles looks over at them with a piece of meat sticking out of his mouth. After finishing the meat and downing it with ale he walks over to this strange visitor. “It’s Handy Dandy meow!” The two shake hands and paw. “Squiffles! How is my number one customer doing?”
The two sit and talk, the kittens sitting and listening to their tales. “So there I was, bracing moi for the Ogre’s Fireball when this cat comes out of nowhere and dropkicks him in the gut! After the quest, I offered my services to him selling magical items and giving intel for other quests that he went on.” Dandy downs his mug before continuing. “Glad to see you’ve made a name for yourself my friend!” “What’s your next adventure gonna be, Squiff?” The kittens ask with a glimmer in their eyes. “Yeah Dandy, what’s the next job meow?” The dandy man sprang up, holding his cane high. “The Staff of Creation!” Squiffles’s eyes widen. “I thought that was just an old fairytale meow…” Dandy opens up a map on the table, the kittens crowding together to take a peek. “This is a map one of my scouts found in some ruins. Apparently the directions point to an island not on any other maps, any leads on your end Squiff?” The cat ponders for a moment before recalling an old tale. “I remember hearing a story about an old relic that was used by a cat to create an island in the sky. If that’s the same Isle of Mirage that I heard the Elders talking about then it has to exist meow!” The kittens hearing the conversation became excited. “If I was bigger, I could go too…” “Squiff is always going on adventures! I wish I could go!” Squiffles pats the kittens. “Keep working hard and one day you might get to go on adventures yourself!” The kittens salute their older brother figure as he and the Dandy Man give the intel to Guild Staff who approve of this quest.
Squiffles sets off with the kittens waving at him. The ship soon disappears over the horizon, with Squiffles and the crew keeping a lookout for the fabled island. After sailing 125 Miles off the coast of Cat’s Park, the ship enters a large cloud of fog. “This wasn’t on the map!” The Captain of the ship exclaims. “This is the barrier of the Isle of Mirage it seems…” Squiffles sniffs the air. “As expected, I can’t smell the way to the island meow…” Dandy opens the map to the island. They were close to where it was marked on the map yet nothing but the ocean and endless fog could be seen. “Are ya sure there’s an island here mate?” The Captain looks through his spyglass. “It’s in the sky it seems.” Squiffles looks up to see a massive island floating above them. “How’re ya gonna get up there?” Before he realized, Squiffles had climbed into the main cannon of the ship and fired himself at the island in the sky. The Dandy Man follows after on his flying carpet.
Miscellaneous Notes Ver. 2.0.0
- Squiffles has toughened his paws enough to allow him to punch, palm and backfist without hurting himself or breaking his own paws. This took a while but it was worth it in the Cat's eyes. He trained at the Village's Shrine which doubles as a dojo since he was a kitten. His brother Squaffles also initially trained in hand to hand but found weapons to be more to his liking.
- Squiffles's punches can shatter boulders. He doesn't use any magic or Ki, but simply trained himself to that level... And here follows an anime-style training montage!
- Cat's Park has hot springs that have healing effects due to the combination of minerals and nutrients in the water. The kittens often swim in these only to become light headed from being in the bath for too long and getting an earful from their parents.
- Squiffles and Squaffles as kittens would often play with the slimes that are a part of the rail system. This is actually quite common for kittens which only causes their parents become frustrated with how they come home covered in slime and needing long baths.
- The village shrine is known as Catnip Shrine (Inuhakka Shrine in the local dialect) and serves as both a place of worship and as a dojo for the martial arts found exclusively in the village such as PangaiNoon and Kyokushin styles of Karate. The original inhabitants and first generation of Cat's Park saw early adventurers and outsiders performing a fighting style that was compatible with their native arts thus creating the first forms of Karate native to Cat's Park. The styles include Matatabi-Ryu (Silver vine style), Inuhakka-Ryu (Catnip Style), Gorogoro-Ryu (Lazing around style) and several others. The cats meditate while sitting in a loaf. Those who train in this shrine usually end up either becoming adventurers or village guardians.
- The village guardians are cats assigned to protect the village from danger and make sure the happiness and welfare of the cats are met. They train in Inuhakka Shrine for much of their lives and upon graduating, are assigned a position along the gates and perimeter of the village such as gunners who man the turrets or gatekeepers who control who or what can come or go from the village though Cat's Park is usually quite lax with this one. The walls keeping monsters or those who wish to plunder the village out are in a dilapidated state.
- According to local legend, the Village has a relic sealed away somewhere yet no cat alive knows where it is located or even what it is. The kittens of every generation seem to enjoy treasure hunting for the relic.
