Verily remarkable! If the words of those mortals in the North hold true, then these mystical "streams" do course through the vast expanse of Qestrus, bearing a mysterious energy in their flow, which seems to exert a peculiar influence on the living beings above them, with certain species being more affected than others. On this very day, I achieved the astonishing feat of conjuring a sphere of flames through mere thought, and its potency grew when I affixed a particular phrase to it. Astounding! Those on this exploratory journey have taken to dubbing it "Magic," a name I find quite apt. According to the wisdom bestowed upon me by the Eafirans, these streams exhibit an even greater "potency" in their lands, especially near the Draken Summits. Methinks the fragments that descended from the heavens might be intertwined with this phenomenon. First, the Dragons, and now this? What more mysteries lie ahead?" -Research Notes of Veleth Aurnol, 567

In 557 of the second era, an incident involving an unstable version of what would later be known as "Call Lightning" would spark an investigation that would later become an expedition upon the discovery of underground currents and streams. In these streams, a strange and highly volatile liquid flows endlessly, making its way all throughout the lands of Qestrus. The mysterious liquid, which was given the name "mana," was found to give off a potent energy that metaphysically altered those it flowed underneath, specifically the Elves and the Frostborn of Eafira, allowing them to channel into an energy that was named "Magic." During the decade long discovery, it was found that there were other types of magic aside from the manipulation of the elements, a lot involving nature, and some involving matter displacement, which lead to the creation of gateways.
