Void Guardian

Serpents of the Void

Description

Great serpents who inhabit the Void, known as Void Guardians, are among the largest predators within the black planes of the realm of great demons and monstrosities beyond mortal comprehension. Very little is known about these creatures, as very few have ever been seen in Qestra; the majority of sightings come from the Great Demon Unity, and the others come from drunken sailors of the high seas who claim to have seen the giant creatures roaming the bottom of the deepest seas, devouring all in their path. If encountered, it is recommended by the discoverer and only expert on this subject, Ulthis Pyle, that you flee from this creature if possible.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Coloration

The body is mainly black to avoid being seen in its natural habitat, with teal luminescent markings throughout the entire body.

Appendages

Several fins on its side to allow for rotation.   Tail fin at the end to allow for propulsion.   A large fin on the upper section of the body to allow for steering.

Skin

Large scales cover its outer body with even larger plates on its underside.

Genetics and Reproduction

It is unknown how these creatures reproduce.

Growth Rate & Stages

Hatchling

After birth, Void Guardian parents break through into the material plane to house their newly born hatchling to feed upon easy prey for the next one thousand years.

Juvenile

A juvenile will continue to feed on large prey as it grows until it starts to break back into the Void.

Adolescent

A rare few adolescent Void Guardians have ever been seen in recorded history. Only after breaking into the Void does a juvenile become an adolescent Void Guardian.

Adult

An adult Void Guardian has never been seen in recorded history. The existence of one is often doubted.

Ecology and Habitats

From hatchling to just before adolescence, they reside within very deep oceans, very rarely to be seen near the surface. From adolescence to adulthood they reside, soley, within the void.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Any Matter

Biological Cycle

Beginning when they are placed into the oceans of a realm outside of the Void and ending when they are able to reach the Void, they are able to feed on large deep ocean creatures and landmass for sustenance, after which they are too large to be able to sustain themselves and are forced to go back to the Void or suffer starvation.

Behaviour

Described as apex predators of all food chains, including races touched by the divine. When hunting, the serpent will emit a sound whose frequency cannot be determined, often described as both maddeningly high and dreadfully low, which acts as a call to any living creature within five hundred miles (eight hundred kilometers), attracting any large creature to it. It will then, depending on its size, use its bioluminescence to hypnotize and then devour its prey. However, when it comes to the sentient races of Qestrus, juvenile to adolescent Void Guardians become highly aggressive and will often attack on sight no matter the situation. The reason for this is unknown.

Additional Information

Domestication

Due to their highly aggressive behavior and extreme abomination towards all sentient life, they cannot be tamed by any means.

Average Intelligence

It is widely believed that they are intelligent creatures, being able to set out elaborate traps for their victims, yet simpler than the average person of the sentient races. Yet, some accounts from the Great Demon Unity and even more recent reports from sailors claim that they are able to speak through psychic links, though there is not enough data to prove this.
Lifespan
The lifespan of a Void Guardian is unknown, as no corpse has ever been found to have died of natural causes. It is unknown if they are even mortal.
