What happens to a world left behind by the gods who created it?

   

Aduran has the answer to this:

  you move on.   In the world of Aduran, the Old Gods dissappeared, causing Gods' End  which cumulated in a near-apocalypse and set back the world by over 1,000 years as it attempted to recover. Slowly, though, it did and the gods still here were left behind, reviled, or treated with apathy in the wake of disaster. Their temples were mostly left to fall or repurposed, their followers dwindling to nearly nothing, their practices kept to historical accounts, and their offerings running dry.   In the wake of the near-apoclypse, the people of Aduran decided that to make sure that nothing like this would happen again, they would need to figure out how the world ticked. After the period of recovery, there was a science and technology boom as people raced to learn how the world worked and how to keep it working. From crude, unstable machines to more streamlined technology to the modern magitech, the science and technology fields were developed at almost a frantic pace.   In modern times, magitech is an integral part of life for the majority of the world. Transportation, communication, defense, and many other things are supported or taken over by the technology that's been developed since the boom. No one has quite figured out how to prevent another Gods' End yet, though, and the threat of a second calamity looms in the background even now.
