Draconians

The strange vessel had weapons far superior than our own that seemed to harness the elements themselves and move at intense speeds and could pull of intense complicated turns with grace and agility of a flying creature. We agreed to a parlay on a neaby moon, but we were unpreapred for what we would find.   The ship was long and had finlike spires and instead of metal plating seemed to by stylized with brilliant sapphire scales. As we approached the meeting place, my men let out shocked gasps and were afraid to approach. Sitting on a stone was a small dragon. Well... similar to a dragon. It was humanoid but was covered in silver scales with along tail and wings tucked behind it.   "Greetings my friends. I am Tiboran Galewing, let us get to know one another and clear up this mis-understanding."   One of my men informed me he was not speaking Eldari but was in fact using Magic to speak in a tongue we understood. Even so, his voice was raspy and harsh sounding, though the intent seemed sincere. Sincere, but also tinged with the knowledge that he had completely disabled our vessel and held all of the power at the moment.
- Captain Sileron's Official First Contact Report
Carrying the blood of Dragons in their veins, Draconians consider themselves one of the most noble of races in the galaxy. Coming from vast empires in the Delta Quadrant, Draconians are a more rare sight in the Alpha Quadrant. Either created by the gods or the arcane procreation of dragons with humanoids, the Draconians have served as footsoldiers for the Dragons and have long held great power in the arcane. Driven by the same curiosity dragons have, they delved into science and technology as well and have vast stellar empires in their home quadrant.

Proud and Powerful

Draconians, as the name implies, are related to and look very much like dragons. Their scales gleam in the colors and shades associated with their dragon ancestors. This can be bright red, green, white, blue, black, or polished gold, silver, brass, bronze, and copper. There are rumors that some other variants exist for the mythical crystal dragons: a shimmering amethyst, sapphire, ruby, and emerald as well as a wispy black with an eerie glow between the scales.   Draconians stand around 6.5ft tall and weigh anywhere from 200-350 pounds. Their hands have 3 fingers and a thumb with talon like claws. Typically Draconians live in clans and have very close ties to family and their ancestral line. Their bloodline impacts their abilities. Tails are present in some Draconians but not in others. Typically clans genetically are composed of one type or the other though there has been no recorded stigma of breeding with one or the other. In addition some Draconians have what could be similar to hair, as tendrils fall from their head behind the fins and horns of their draconic heritage. These genetic quirks seems to be passed around and serve no unique purpose. Rarely, the draconic blood manifests more prominently, granting the Draconian with wings. Draconians with wings typically are seen as special and rare and a lot of rpessure is put upon them to be the paragon of the clan.

Clans and Empires

To Draconians, the clan is more important than the individual. Their clan has their utmost loyalty and the leader of the clan holds great respect and power in it's sociuety. Draconians conduct themselves in ways that reflect the honor and values of their clan, and should a Draconian bring dishonor to the clan they are usually expelled into exile. This culture of supporting the clan has survived even into the modern era, though it looks different than ancient times.   All Draconians are driven to learn and improve themselves and be self-sufficient. They hate to fail and will push themselves to their limits before asking for help. Their pursuit to be masters in skills becomes their lifetime goal, usually to benefit their community or clan, and others who share this skill or goal find it easier to earn the trust and respect of the Draconian. This pursuit of skill and knowledge lead the Draconians to be some of the first Space Travelers, originally through arcane means, then through technological. From their they explored new worlds and formed empires jointly with trusted clans, and later other species.

Reptilian Grudge

The Draconians are native to the Delta Quadrant. Rumors of them being in the Alpha Quadrant have long existed, most likely the result of spacial anomalies or divine manipulation. As natives to the Delta Quadrant, the first "official" encounter was made with the Eldari when the Starship Veriale was swiftly disabled by a Draconian Scout Ship.   While generally amicable with the various Alpha Quadrant species, there was always tension betwen the Draconians and the reptilian Kresk whose home was far to the "Galatic South" deep in Republic Space. An incident at Garidian Core soured relations and the Draconians withdrew from the lower sectors of the Alpha Quadrant and have typically resided closer to the Delta Quadrant. The 2 powers have been in a tense and fragile peace and speak of what happened to no one.

Draconian Names

Draconians have names in draconic but typically also have equivalents for others to refer to them by. They name they are most proud of is their clan name. While young, they might earn a nickname among clanmates. If they allow non-clanmates to refer to them by this name, it is a symbol of great respect. trust, and honor.   Male Names: Arjhan, Balasar, Bharshan, Donrah, Gheshon, Hiroka, Krivian, Medrian, Nadarr, Pandhar, Pratoun, Rhokesh, Shamresh, Shedrua, Tarhure, Torinn   Female Names: Akra, Biri, Daar, Farideh, Harrahn, Honvernah, Jhera, Kava, Korinn, Mishan, Nala, Perra, Raiann, Sora, Surinna, Thava, Uadjit   Clan Names: Clarixan, Clerithrea, Delimere, Djardin, Dracheondor, Faereakia, Kepshtillan, Kerrhirok, Luxdaran, Myastira, Nemrian, Nyxjarous, Ophliastor, Perixtoral, Sharisteda, Veriothan, Yjarous

Draconic Bloodline

Choose one of the dragon types in the table listed at the end of this section. This ancestry affects your other abilities.

Languages

You can read, speak, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and silibants.

Breath Weapon

On your turn may use one of your attack actions to make an attack action to exhale breath charged with Draconic power. The damage type or condition applied is determined by your ancestry and listed in the table below. When you make this attack, choose an area of effect either: 15ft Cone or 5ft by 30ft line. All creatures in the area must make a DEX saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + your Constitution Modifier + your proficiency bonus. You may use your breath attack a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all charges after completing a long rest.   Creatures in the area take 2d6 damage or half as much on a success. A successful save also negates any conditions that would have been applied. The damage increases to 4d6 at 6th level, 6d6 at 12th level, 8d6 at 18th level. If the attack imposes a condition in addition to damage, the number of damage dice is halved.

Draconic Traits

You choose whether or not your character has a tail and head tails. Your character also has toughened scales. While you are not wearing armor your AC is 14 + DEX. A basic environmental suite does not count as armor for this feature. You can still use shields and an environmental suit and still gain this benefit.   You can also choose one of the Draconian racial feats to help distinguish your Draconian from others.
