In Jolana's Wake

All that is known now is that the day Jolana awoke us is the day the Life Ducts ran dry. No one knows what Jolana spoke to Anya that morning, but in the aftermath of the awakening, young Anya performed a miracle as the first of the Arborians to have recieved the Donum Aquae and reopened three Life Ducts, which remain open to this day.   Anya quickly became like a god to the Arborians, but she forever remained weakened by her feat. The Arborians settled the area of the Three Gates and founded the city of Helix, named for its swirling canals. The other of the awoken were not so lucky. Jolana’s magic had drained all the Life Ducts in the world of their power.   The Cumerians found themselves in a dark and hostile forest surrounded by formidable predators.   The Gredorans awoke on a grassy steppe to the heat of an impending lavaflow.   The Rathi were abandoned in a dense and unforgiving jungle.   The Narscilians were stirred from their sleep by shifting sands and a parching sun.   The Shianese began to wander expansive grasslands and sheer mountains.   The Kilder woke up as they live, struggling not to be consumed by the hungry marsh.   Bloody war ensued. The Arborians in their greed decided to keep Helix for themselves, viewing themselves as the rightful heirs to the city as Jolana’s kinsmen, and as the only ones to receive the Donums. The other nations became desperate, not able to survive on drinking the blood of the less dangerous wildlife, and easily driven back by those with Donums.   Anya Arbor could not sit idly by  and watch the genocide of six peoples. Despite her influence, she was unable to reach her people through their twisted lust for dominance. Anya and her closest allies stole away from Helix in the night. She traveled to the lands of each of the other nations, teaching them how to open Life Ducts. She could not open them for more than a few moments each in her weakened state, but it was enough to allow a few to drink the precious water and be given their own Donums.   Anya returned with an army of six nations behind her, and the Helix Accords were founded.
