The Golden Sanctum
The Children of the Golden Sanctum serve as both the guardians of the Shaman-Pharaoh-King of Gebelzum in the Gismari Desert and the council which the same ruler relies on for most decisions. The Shafa is openly a figure-head, there to gawk at and be the peak of nobility and to enjoy the riches of the people, but the true power lies with the Sanctum.
Structure
All of the higher ups in the organization are treated as equals, though each individual focuses on one area of governance and has a related title. One is named Eldest, but this does not make them the leader, simply the one who has been with the organization the longest and has the respect and ear of all their siblings. In addition to their typical duties, the Eldest oversees the recruitment and training of new members. These new members begin as starlings: squires and apprentices for the senior members, but eventually become sons, daughters and children of the Sun in their own right.
Mythology & Lore
The Golden Sanctum is at it's heart an order of knights devoted to the Sun. They believe that at the beginning of time there was not one, but two suns in the sky, one for day and one for night. When humans came to the world, in their arrogance they believed to know better and built a tower to fell the sun of the night. This backfired, as the falling fire burnt the earth and created the desert, and still a hole remained in the sky. It took a brave and righteous group of people to build a new sun and put it in the hole in the sky, but it was not the same, this became the moon. Each Child of the Golden Sanctum wears a plain golden medallion to show their allegiance, and their mission is to valiantly defend the lonely sun in the sky and stand vigil over the desert where its sister's grave lies.
