As mankind wallows in its own filth for what seems to be an eternity, an influential man by the name of Marcus Popov stumbles upon a discovery that'll alter the future.

Months had begun to pass, and years dragged on as humanity trudged onwards. As tribes and clans plant their feet, other small groups of people formulate with intent on understanding the mysterious remnants of civilization left behind by their ancestors. One prominent member of these many groups was a man by the name of Marcus Popov, born in the flooded remains of South America. Popov led an expedition into a city not too far from his tribe's hamlet, unveiling ancient human technology and many other useful tidbits that aided in the discovery of mankind's original splendor.    The rest of the tribe reluctantly decided to join Popov's cause after witnessing a short demonstration of an electrical generator at work. It was then that the group had decided a name for themselves, being referred to as the Vinculum of Discovery. Not much time would pass before the Mobile Purification Unit became aware of the newfound faction, declaring them to be a threat to the MPU's goal of world domination. With little fuel and vehicles to expedite their journey down to South America, the MPU takes on the daunting task of an onfoot conquest against the Vinculum to squash them out before they can become a threat.   The Vinculum continues its efforts, hauling in a variety of useful technology and materials from the abandoned city and repurposing it for their own needs. On one fateful trip into the city, a member of the group stumbled into a large sinkhole that seemingly formed beneath him. His fall into the earth below revealed an ancient vault with seemingly alien origins. The Vinculum, eager to get their hands on any new information begins their attempts at forcing their way into the vault, succeeding as the lock that kept the storage sealed had been worn with time. As the large contraption opened up, the crew was unknowingly exposed to a wave of intense radiation. This radioactive material would later prove itself beneficial to humans, and had no negative effects -- immediately, at least.    Unaware of their contamination, the Vinculum went about their business within the vault, analyzing the capsules stored within. These vials of information entailed of advanced technology and modern day discoveries before the fall of humanity, which the faction had used to their advantage as their small hamlet evolved into something of a small town under the name of New Cali.   Time seemed to pass rapidly as the Vinculum had continued its rapid progression to modern era luxuries. After the opening of the underground vault, the faction had discovered a way to prolong death, which would in turn ensure the preservation of Father Popov. This ground-breaking medication came just in time for the completion of New Cali, on the new year of 2189. The formation of the city was considered a stepping stone into the Golden Age.   The completion of New Cali would be not be celebrated for long, as the Mobile Purification Unit had finally arrived on the continent of South America. New Cali's presence could be noticed from miles away, and the Battle of New Cali had erupted as two titans clashed against one another. With one side wielding an aged arsenal, and the other unleashing experimental weaponry, the battle lasted for a few hours until the MPU had been pushed back from the heart of the city.    The MPU refused to back down after having traveled so far, setting up a base of operations near the city, an effort that the Vinculum was unaware of. It was from this hideout that the unit would quietly observe New Cali from afar, licking its wounds after the failed attempt of an assault.
