Wings of Love

The Prism is divided into the realms of the Colores by chaotic strips of darkness: the Renegade's Shadows. Sometimes these can lash out into violent storms that rip apart those who live close to the edges. Sometimes a Shadow even appears further inland to wreak havoc until it is dispatched by Followers of the Disciple. But they tend to leave any victims who lost their homes and livelihoods to fend for themselves. From the affluent realm of Roseus comes an organization that invests in these poor people.

It was founded by Trinifleur Jadeflint, a wealthy traveler who was touched by those people down on their luck, displaced by the Renegade's Shadows. They pulled together the people necessary to found and run a charity in their name, although most of the execution is done by volunteers. They have built centers all over the Colores to temporarily house the refugees, and help rebuild neighborhoods and villages for them to move into permanently. Most major cities have at least one such House of the Wings of Love, jokingly called Flamingo Houses, because of their bright pink decoration.

While their work can have a great impact for the benefitted people, their effectiveness is sometimes questioned. They tend to raise funds through lavish feasts for the wealthy, held to the highest of standards. Acquiring an invitation already costs a pretty sum just to pay for the expenses of the party. It is seen as a status symbol just to be on the guest list. All that money could just as well benefit the less fortunate. So in total, only a smaller part of the money that goes around the Wings of Love foundation actually makes it to the people in need.

Nevertheless, the charity is quite popular, exactly because of the opulence and extravagance of the fundraising events. Then there is also the fact that this charity has ever been highly accountable. Their finances have been open to the public from the very beginning. For a lot of people, this outweighs any possible lack in effectiveness, especially compared to charities that strive to make more fundamental changes, but turn out to be corrupt in their spending and just line the pockets of greedy politicians.
