The Lumenadori
Chasers of the Light, Aurora Surfers, Flare Witches. They have many names to other people, because they are viewed in many different ways. When referring to themselves, they use the name Lumenadori.
They were a nomadic people when they lived in the Overlight. There they lifted along the currents of the sky lights, the auroras, living on the backs of the magnificent sun-rays. They sustained themselves with the energies all around them, and were able to manipulate the light in its purest form.
But since the fall of the sun-rays, they have been forced to live on the solid ground of the Prism. Nowadays, they have settled far and wide to make their homes. They do still hold strong believes about the auroras that color the night sky. The Lumenadori know the secret powers of their ever shifting forms, or so it is said. This is why they make pilgrimages across the Colores, why they can study the sky all night and sleep most of the day.
Trouble with acceptance
Despite being full-fledged members of society in any of the Colores, not everybody is welcoming to them. Their divinations and ritual dances and magically created food is viewed with curiosity and fascination at best. But more than a few do not trust their intentions. Other people wonder if they are secretly brainwashing innocents, influencing weather patterns, or even controlling the darkness at The Outskirts. When out of control, their powers tend to manifest as fire. The destructive nature of that magic is also part of why other people treat them with caution.
Luckily, this wariness does not often turn into such a fear that people find it necessary to take drastic measures. It has been decades since a clan has been outright attacked or banished from their homes. However, discrimination still runs deep, and they can be an easy scapegoat for any misfortune.
Culture
Shared customary codes and values
Everything is connected through the light, even in darkness. Therefore the Lumenadori value empathy and generosity, as well as balance and responsibility. They do not care much for wealth, status and technological progress, especially when it comes at the cost of nature or vulnerable people. They do however understand that having influence is necessary for making changes, and will respectfully and carefully grow and manage their position in society.
Foods & Cuisine
Curiously the Lumenadori enjoy eating and drinking products they made from light with their magic. To most people this food tastes quite bland, but they claim to get a wonderful sensation from eating it, that goes beyond the mundane sense of taste. Now that they are no longer in the Overlight, they cannot make enough to sustain their communities on this alone. Compared to their magically created food, spicy food is the next best thing. So any dishes they have learned to make with regular food products, tend to be very hot, really sweet, or sometimes both.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
They are easily recognized by wearing the colors of auroras on their skin. Either with tattoos or with paints or magic, if the skin type does not allow for the injection of ink. There is artistic freedom in how a Lumenadorus chooses to mark their face, but every stroke and color carries meaning. There are entire books written on just this topic.
The first marking happens when one comes of age. Afterwards, they alter and expand their patterns as they age. Seniors can be covered from head to toe, and their skin tells all sorts of stories of what they have learned in life.
