Dream chaperon
You need to accept that you will never be fully prepared to chaperon a dreamer. If you have trouble letting go of control, you might as well leave this classroom right now.
Caerulis has always been a popular destination for people searching respite. The many islands with calm beaches offer plenty space to find some peace and quiet. But it is not just for those who need physical restoration. Those who are plagued by nightmares, or even dream stalkers, come to the Caerulian dream chaperons to find spiritual restoration.
The dream chaperons have gone through rigorous training for at least a decade to hone their skills. They have learned how to connect with someone else's dreams, how to interpret and influence the abstraction of the sleeping mind, and then aid the dreamer in overcoming the source of their nightmares. Most of the time this involves merely talking to the dreamer until they reach an insight or a new perspective that brings them peace of mind. But sometimes, it turns out to be a dream stalker that is feasting on their energy. In that case the chaperon will help the dreamer set up defenses and ward away the stalker until it shrivels and perishes.
Stalkers can pose a serious danger to dream chaperons. This profession is therefore not for the faint of heart. The training they receive is necessary to learn how to distance the dream self from the physical self, to understand that any harm done in the dream realm is not real. If a chaperon is not fully aware of this, any disruption of the form in the dream realm can have lasting effects on the physical form in reality. Not only that, but by interacting with the consciousness of the dreamer, they make their clients vulnerable to the same effects. Therefore they need to protect their clients throughout this process.
None of this requires physical training. It mostly involves philosophy and spirituality, because a dream chaperon connects to the consciousness of a dreamer only through understanding and following their thoughts and views. They need to be able to follow these without rejecting them, to shape them into visuals that both the dreamer and the chaperon can understand. Only then can the abstract forms of the dream be interpreted in more tangible concepts. This is the most important phase of understanding what troubles the mind of the client. If done improperly, one can think to have solved an underlying issue, but have completely missed a dream stalker lurking in the darkness of the subconscious.
Most dream chaperons run their business somewhere in Caerulis, though there are some that have set up shop in the other Colores, to help the people that cannot travel. These tend to be more expensive, because their job is more difficult away from the calm energy permeating the Realm of Blue. That is also the reason why the main college of somniology, the study of dreams, is placed here.
