Stormbound Reverence

Stormbound Reverence is a religion dedicated to Vayu-Vata , the Primordial of air, wind, and the ever-changing currents of the world. The faith emphasizes freedom, adaptability, and personal growth, reflecting the untamed nature of the skies themselves. Unlike many organized religions, the Stormbound Reverence has no formal hierarchy. Any follower may conduct services, offer guidance, or interpret Vayu-Vata’s teachings, provided they uphold the three core tenets of the faith:

  1. Reverence – a deep respect for the wind, the air around them, and the unseen forces that shape the world.
  2. Curiosity – a drive to explore, learn, and embrace the unknown.
  3. Persistence – the determination to endure challenges and adapt to change without faltering.

Currents

Although there is no official command structure, certain individuals within the faith hold significant influence due to their wisdom, insight, or ability to inspire others. These leaders are known as Currents. A Current is not a ruler in the traditional sense, but rather a figure emulated by other followers, sought out for advice, guidance, and interpretation of Vayu-Vata’s will. Currents may differ widely in philosophy, ritual style, and approach, reflecting the faith’s core belief in individuality and the fluid nature of the wind.

Practices and Beliefs

  • Services: Often conducted outdoors or in high places where the wind can flow freely, services may involve meditation, storytelling, flight (when possible), or demonstrations of skill and balance.
  • Rituals: Offerings are made to the wind — feathers, leaves, or lightweight objects are commonly left to drift on the breeze. Many followers practice personal rituals to honor change and adaptation in their own lives.
  • Advisement: Any follower may give counsel, but Currents are recognized as particularly attuned to Vayu-Vata’s guidance. Their teachings are shared widely, though never enforced.

Influence

The influence of the Stormbound Reverence varies by region, often aligning with skybound cities, cliffside settlements, and areas of high elevation, where the presence of the wind is most felt. The faith encourages travel, exploration, and personal growth, and is frequently associated with scholars, explorers, skyship crews, and messengers.

Notable Currents of the Stormbound Reverence

  • Thalor Skymantle – Called “The Roaring Voice”, Thalor is a charismatic orator whose sermons are often accompanied by dramatic demonstrations of wind manipulation. He inspires followers to take bold action and embrace change fearlessly.
  • Zyrris Nalah – Known as “The Shifting Wing”, Zyrris specializes in guiding travelers, messengers, and skyship crews. They teach adaptability and resilience, using personal stories of hardship and exploration to illustrate the tenets of persistence.
  • Vaylith Aeoren“The Aether Seeker”, Vaylith is recognized for scholarly contributions to the understanding of air currents, storms, and weather patterns, blending natural philosophy with spiritual practice. Many younger Currents study under them.
