The Fiero Clan is an ancient sect of necromancers that existed before the Rending and endured for several centuries afterward. The clan is infamous for its mastery over death and its followers’ ability to reanimate corpses, often twisting loved ones into obedient thralls.

Founding and the First Reign

The Fiero Clan was founded by Varrion Fiero, a cleric of the ancient god Jergal, Lord of the End of Everything. Varrion would later be known as the Bone Prophet. Little is known of his motivations, but he quickly amassed a large following, teaching necromantic rites that allowed his disciples to breathe life into dead flesh.

Many who sought Varrion’s tutelage hoped to restore deceased loved ones, only to discover that these resurrected beings were bound to quiet servitude in undeath. Like many wielders of power, Varrion feared his own mortality and sought to achieve lichdom.

Before he could complete this profane ritual, however, a group of adventurers known as The Tidewardens, led by a Paladin of Lathander, intervened. They ended Varrion’s life and halted the first reign of the Fiero Clan.

Second Reign and the Bone Widow

Shortly after the Rending, a woman named Ravelle discovered the tomes left behind by Varrion. Driven by grief and ambition, she sought to rebuild the Fiero Clan and assumed the title of Bone Widow.

Under her leadership, the clan regained strength as Ravelle amassed necromancers and undead thralls. Twisted by her rituals and the influence of Jergal, she sought to dominate Primordia, beginning with the population of Crankwall. Her plan involved raising those she killed as undead servants, repeating this process until all of Primordia would be under her control.

The Necrowar

Ravelle’s assault on Crankwall sparked a prolonged conflict known as the Necrowar. For years, her necromancers and undead armies struggled to break the flame shield created by the Flame Obelisk, which protected the city.

Ultimately, a new band of adventurers, led by Jorvan Bedros, wielder of Bedrock, breached Ravelle’s defenses. They defeated the Bone Widow, causing the undead under her control to collapse and forcing surviving necromancers to flee. With no leader, the Fiero Clan fell into ruin once more.

Legacy

Though the Fiero Clan has been destroyed repeatedly, many believe remnants continue to practice necromancy in secret, completing unholy rituals far from the eyes of civilization. The specter of their power remains a cautionary tale for scholars, adventurers, and the people of Primordia alike.
