You hide your manipulative intents behind honeyed words targeted to the heart.
Through feigned flattery, gentleness, advice and small favors you can gain the trust of people rather quickly.
Roll Smarts & Sense Motive after a chat with an NPC to detect the weak spot that you'll exploit later. You only need to roll this the first time you will attempt this. You can only try this roll once for every NPC.

• Critical Failure: Your read is misguided, the result of your next roll goes at -5. Yoi cannot roll again.
• Failure: You cannot piece the puzzle, you cannot follow to the next step, yet you can try this again next week.
• Success: You identify the right way to proceed (flattery, gentleness, advice, small favors, etc.)
• Raises: Grant you a +1 to the result of your following rolls to gain the subject's trust, to a maximum of +4.

After this, you may proceed to the next stage. You can make a contested Manipulation & Deceit roll against Will & Sense Motive of an NPC, to gain his Trust (see Relationship System).
The usual Relationship System modifiers to this roll apply, so further attempts with the same subject should become easier over time.
You cannot attempt this roll more than once per day per NPC.

• Critical Failure: Your intentions are discovered. You lose 2 Long-Term Trust points with that person.
• Failure: Nothing happens.
• Partial Success: You get a 2 point increase in the Short-Term Trust with that NPC.
• Success: You get a 1 point increase in the Short-Term Trust and an immediate 1 point increase in the Long-Term Trust with that NPC.
• Each Raise: Grants you 1 point increase in the Short-Term Trust with that NPC.
