Lara

Lara cover

Lara's one of the newer settlements, ye know.  We only started building 'er up after we got permission from da Forest Folk.  Some said we didnae need it, but my ol' grandda', he always said it was bet'er to be polite to a Forest Elf than t'risk dem takin offense...
~ Farmer McTib

Lara is normally a quiet place, a collection of homes and farms with people that go about the same business every day. But there is one place that stands out in Lara - the River Horse.   The River Horse is a fine establishment, and a rather large one when you consider the small size of the town it was built within. The Hammerflow did a marvelous job of making the improvements seamless, I must say.   The inn used to be a size more appropriate to the town.   But then they got a Sprite Cook... and their stews became famous. Travelers throughout the Forest began to seek shelter in the River Horse at night, and eventually it became so crowded that there were fights more often than not for room at the tables.   The Sprite, one tiny thing named Ninaev, laid the law down with that wooden spoon of hers. Dirk's face has never gotten its real color back - always stuck in that strange shade of red on his cheek, but he agreed to add on to the building in exchange for free dinner every evening.   Now the River Horse has become the evening entertainment for the entire village. Locals show up for drinks and dinner just to hear the traveler's tales. Goods are spoken of, trades arranged - the River Horse changed this village.   Why, it wouldn't surprise me if the village kept growing just so that more people could taste Ninaev's cooking.

Geography

Borderlands between the Deep Forests and the Rolling Hills. Built on the shores of the Almarea River.

Ecosystem

The plantlife here ranges from sun-craving to shade-needing thanks to being situated in the borderlands as it is.  There is water aplenty, and so there is a very diverse range of fungi, mosses, and herbs.

Ecosystem Cycles

Spring - Chilled to Warm.
Summer - Warm to Hot.
Fall - Warm to Chilled.
Winter - Chilled to Frozen.

Fauna & Flora

Mana Tree - These trees grow in abundance here - likely due to the fact that a Sprite is born every ten years within the village boundaries. For some reason, Mana Trees seem to spring up here every time a Sprite is born - though only once has an entire grove grown so quickly.

Natural Resources

Marble Stone

History

Lara was founded fairly recently - and only after being granted a blessing by a powerful Forest Witch, the Elf Breneva.

The River Horse attracts every traveler that comes within a half day's travels.
