Onyx Bones
Demographics
Territorians decide who lives where. Currently, the city is divided into four territories: Haidit, Noctal, Zefrir, and Oslen.
Government
It's pretty much an I-won't-fight-if-you-won't kind of city. There isn't really a defined leader, just Territorians. The current Territorians are Hail, who rules Haidit, Kinder, who governs Noctal, Zile, who oversees Zefrir, and Olsen, who leads Oslen. They each have their own rules and a right to the Oasis, but there are some laws that have been in place since the city was first inhabited, such as the Truce (Territorians cannot attack official citizens or creatures who reside in a different territory) and the Gateway (Territorians cannot stop any citizen from drinking from the Oasis or crossing into different territories for any reason).
Defences
Onyx Bones is one of the only cities on Wofuth that uses the Ponian Defence. Every time the city grows outside of its walls, it builds another layer. Onyx, in particular, uses the Rosets strategy, when, each time a new wall is built, the previous walls are added to unpredictably, depending on the territory. If you were to fly over the city, it would look like a black Roset bud. The city also has a military. Or, well, one military with four different leaders.
Industry & Trade
Ajecane Labs provide a lot of the jobs and resources the city uses, but the outer layers use farms to provide for themselves. Being in a desert, there are pretty much eight different farmable foods: Blackjack Cacti, Soto bushes (three varieties), Pursi Willows (two varieties), and Gutroot. Inani animals are also farmed, like Micani and Litel.
Infrastructure
Onyx Bones has a wide variety of technologies, but it is most known for its Ajecane Labs, which produce new foods and medicine. Also, as a result of the architecture, there is a network of strong tunnels underneath the city.
Guilds and Factions
The territories, of course, but Onyx Bones also has an Augur, who lives in a special den in the middle of the Oasis.
History
Onyx Bones was a rebel's settlement at first when that area of the Twisting Desert was owned by Drast. After the Daidren Revolution was over, the capital was a wasteland, causing most of the inhabitants to move to Onyx Bones, which offered freedom and flexibility, plus a stable food source. Soon after, Driskadin started Ajecane Labs, and even more fauna relocated to the city. The Zefrir territory stayed stable, but four of the original six territories were merged or splintered and after a long but relatively tame war, we eventually ended up with the four leaders we have today.
Architecture
The architecture varies throughout the city and layers, though one thing stays consistently the same: the crest. Official citizens are given a crest by their Territorian/Distrian, depending on how big the territory is. The more intricate the crest, the longer the family has been in the city. For instance, the Zefrir family is one of the original ruling families. Its crest started as a ζ-like symbol. Six generations later, when Xeri Pledged to a member of the Haidet family, her crest became a mix of ζ and Ħ. Xeri's daughter Pledged to a Gerin, adding ג to the mix. Eventually, that branch of the Zefrir tree's crest became complicated and twisted. The crest is usually above a den's door.
Other than the crest, there are very few building materials in the area. Most families build one or two rooms above-ground with redclay and sunstone, and tunnel into the packed redclay ground. In some areas, the Territorials have allowed tunnels to be built, though they are constantly checked and sparsely placed.
Geography
In the center of Onyx Bones, in the smallest, most well-protected layer, is the Oasis, a spring that somehow brings freshwater from the Tisvern Peaks into the desert. The Oasis drains into two smaller pools, Agia and Bloe, which are closer to the outer layers of the city. On the Esetiren side of the city is a slate ridge and Zethnin of Agia is a patch of fertile land that is surrounded by Ajecane Labs.
