Enactment of the Law of Mortality
    Metaphysical / Paranormal event

The ninety-nine remaining Ormr of the original Hundred gather in the centre of the Heartlands and embark upon an endeavour to cast an arcanum unlike any other. They succeed, and in so doing bring about the concept of death. Where all life upon the star was once immortal and could neither grow old nor suffer physical harm, all save the Ormr themselves will now age, and even they themselves can now be wounded. For the rest of time, all will remember this date as marking the beginning of the history of mortals.

    Climate Change
    Geological / environmental event

Three weeks have passed since the enactment of the Law of Mortality, and the Ormr are still in the process of assessing the changes it has wrought. One of the first things they notice is that the flora they had created in certain parts of the world has begun to turn sickly shades of yellow and brown. In the weeks to come, entire stretches of land that they had cultivated start to wither and die. The Ormr, panicked at the thought of their precious creations being undone, immediately set to work attempting to identify the cause of this deterioration.

    Rain
    Discovery, Scientific

It does not take long for the Ormr to discover the cause of the plants deterioration. In the Heartlands, a new phenomenon is observed: Strange semi-transparent lumps of varying shapes and size have begun to appear in the sky, ranging from pure white to a dark grey in their colouration. From a number of these lumps cascade down small droplets of a material - a substance - the Ormr have never seen before. Upon making contact with the earth, it at first disappears into the ground, and eventually the soil appears to become saturated with it, changing to a darker shade of its original colour.

    Dehydration
    Discovery, Scientific

Several months pass, and the Ormr finally identify what they believe to be the cause of the death of much of their plants. They have watched as this strange new substance fell from the sky down onto the ground, and observed that wherever this occurs, the plants do not die. The substance themselves they took to referring to as water, and the strange floating shapes that they were produced by, skylumps. A number of the Ormr find these skylumps fascinating, and devote great effort to attempting to ascertain how they are created, and through what means they release water, but with no means to reach the sky, the extent of their investigation is highly limited.

    The Blot
    Geological / environmental event

As the Ormr continue to investigate the mystery of the skylumps, something strange happens. A little over half a year has passed since the enactment of the Law of Mortality, and a dark grey spot now appears in the sky in a region far to the south-east of the Heartlands. It is small at first, but begins to grow day by day, quickly becoming larger than any skylump the Ormr have ever seen. Within a month, it has come to encompass the entirety of that region, and within another, it now hangs over half of the planet. Before the year's end, it has engulfed the entirety of the sky, and no light can reach the land below.   The Ormr debate what to do about the strange phenomenon. No other skylumps have formed since it has emerged, and not so much as a drop of water has fallen from it. They soon grow unnerved, unsettled by the lack of sunlight and at the thought of what might become of their plants.   One day, as they are in the middle of their deliberations, it begins to rain.

    The Deluge
    Disaster / Destruction

All at once, water begins to fall from the sky all across the world. It begins at what would have been the crack of dawn, a light shower at first, before intensifying into a deluge the likes of which the Ormr have never seen. The water that falls throughout the Heartlands is enough to flatten the leaves on trees and wash away small plants, and the Ormr hurry to fabricate shelters for their groves. But this is nothing compared to what is occurring at the eye of the storm.   One of the Fyrstbairn soon arrives at the Heartlands bearing news from the south-east: A hole has opened up within the blot, they say, and water falls down from it in a pillar that stretches from the sky to the ground and is as thick as a hill. The water released from the pillar does not soak into the ground, and instead begins to accumulate in a great mass, covering the plants beneath it and beginning to rapidly rise, overrunning entire tracts of land. All of the Ormr present depart for the site of the pillar at once, intent on finding a way to stop the flow of water.

The Wyrms Attempt to Stop the Flood
    Geological / environmental event

After weeks of travel, all ninety-nine of the Hundred and many of the Fyrstbairn have assembled at the edge of the pillar. Water continues to descend endlessly from the sky, and the entirety of the land for hundreds of miles in all directions is now flooded. To even get near the pillar required that the Ormr use their Arcana to create bridges above the land, and these themselves are at risk of being swept away by the whirling maelstrom below.   The Ormr begin unleashing arcanum after arcanum directed at the pillar, intent on attempting to halt its flow somehow. Their attempts are for naught; no matter what they try, the water cannot be stopped. Next, they attempt to strike at the skylumps themselves; also to no avail. They manifest great shockwaves in an attempt to part the clouds, but they simply reform moments later, and the rain continues to pour. Two weeks pass, and the Ormr are unable to find any way to stop the flood.   Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the water ceases to fall.

    Aftermath of The Deluge
    Geological / environmental event

With the rains having ceased, it falls to the Ormr and their children to survey the world and assess the damage done. It soon becomes apparent that the majority of the Ormr's great works have been destroyed: Over half of the planet's surface, some among their number estimate, has now been covered in water. Entire continents that once played home to hundreds of Fyrstbairn have now ceased to exist. Some attempts are made to push the water back, but the wyrms soon realise that it is futile. They can do naught but live with the new circumstances they find themselves in.

As one of the Ormr is at work near the edge of the great expanse of water, they see something floating towards them on its surface. They call upon the Blessing of Creation to summon a gust of wind to bring the object closer. As it beaches upon the edge of the land, the Ormr is horrified to realise that it is the corpse of one of the Leskeln. In the months to come, dozens more such bodies will be discovered in and around the edges of the sea.

    Fate of the Leskeln
    Disaster / Destruction

In time, it becomes apparent that a staggering number of the Leskeln - more than one third of their total population - were killed in the Deluge. Many more have since starved to death as a result of the scarcity of food brought on by the mass extinction of plants that the flooding caused, and now, scarcely a tenth of the original number of Leskeln alive at the enactment of the Law of Mortality still walk the earth.

    The Great Forest of Ethlarnashem
    Founding

All among the Ormr and the Fyrstbairn are in agreement; if the Leskeln are to survive in the new world brought on after the advent of the Law of Mortality, then drastic action must be taken to see to it that their needs are met.   After some deliberation, it is agreed that a homeland must be created where the entirety of the Leskeln are to live, so that they can all be cared for in one place. To that end, the Fyrstbairn suggest the great plain to the north of the Heartlands; a region that had been spared the worst of the flooding. The Leskeln agree, and all their surviving number embark on a journey from across the continent to their new home, which they name Ethlarnashem.

    The Nine Holds
    Construction beginning/end

While the Leskeln were in the process of travelling to Ethlarnashem, the Ormr set to work creating dwellings for them to reside in when they finally arrived. They would create a total of nine great holds, each as large as a mountain and containing every natural resource the Leskeln would need in order to survive. So tall were these holds that snow formed upon their highest reaches, which would then melt and be funnelled into channels created by the Ormr, serving as artificial streams and rivers to supply the Leskeln with water. Where food was concerned, the sides of the hold are flattened down into individual layers, upon which are created terraced fields to be used to grow crops that the Leskeln may eat. When the process is eventually completed years later, the holds become self-sustaining population centres that guarantee the Leskeln will never again starve or be left at the mercy of the elements.

    Strange New Creatures
    Discovery, Scientific

A number of years have now passed since the enactment of the Law of Mortality. The most pressing crises that had faced them now dealt with, the Ormr begin to turn their focus to rebuilding what had been lost. However, before they can begin, they stumble upon a most unexpected discovery: New life not born of their own designs has come to exist upon the surface of the star. Strange creatures none among the Ormr or their descendants would confess to ever having seen began to be sighted, so tiny that it seemed plausible they might have existed since the days of the Deluge and simply gone unnoticed until now. In the months and years to come, more and more such creatures would be discovered by the Ormr, and it would become apparent that an entire new ecosystem had come to exist without their realising.

    Efforts to Rebuild
    Construction beginning/end

The Ormr begin by repairing the damage done to the Heartlands. After this is done, they move out from there to the other areas spared by the water, but soon realise that plants aren't growing in certain areas. After some research, they realise this is because it doesn't rain there often enough for them to do so, and this constitutes a problem.

    Creation of the Cloudboughs
    Technological achievement

Eventually, one among the Ormr comes up with an idea to resolve the water issue in certain parts of the world. They create trees so tall that their canopies stretch up to the very top of the world, and which can absorb skylumps and redistribute the moisture from them to the ground down below. This allows life to flourish in what would otherwise be barren lands.

    Further New Life is Created
    Artistic creation

The Ormr have grown most fond indeed of a number of the new species brought about by the Law of Mortality. Inspired by the diverse forms and behaviours among them, they decide to try their hand at making new creatures, this time not made in their own image but of these other animals. Most importantly, the Ormr find it perplexing that all of these creatures are so small in comparison to them, and so decide they ought to fashion some larger animals. It will remain to be seen how these new species fare in the coming millennia.

    The Wretched Expanse
    Expedition

Ever since the creation of the great watery expanses brought on by the Deluge, it has become all but impossible to travel beyond the continent of Pretheya and the western lands to which it connects. The Ormr wish to know the fate of other lands to the south and the east, but to do so would necessitate finding a way to cross the sea. The Leskeln, crafty as ever, had recently invented small wooden vessels that they used to cross the surface of lakes, but the Ormr were unwilling to make use of these.   In their plight, they turned to a creature that had become their favourite among all the new life created by the Law of Mortality: The many birds that had come to populate the land had amazed the Ormr for their powers of flight. To soar above the world as they did had become a dream of theirs ever since, and it just now occurred to them that it might not be an unattainable one.

    The Advent of Flight

Though it took half a century, one of the Ormr has now done it. They have succeeded in using Arcana to transfigure their own body for the first time, and have created for themselves wings which they may use to soar above the world. Though it will take time, the rest of the Ormr will come to develop the skill of changing their body with the Blessing of Creation and will themselves take to the sky.

Tension Between the Wyrms and Leskeln
    Life, Relationship change

It has been nearly a millennium since the Deluge and the chaos it wrought. The Ormr and Fyrstbairn remember it as if it was just a short time ago, and still seethe over the destruction it wrought upon their great creations, the majority of their attention in the time since dedicated to finding ways to undo the damage.   The Leskeln, meanwhile, clamour for new holds. Their population has long since recovered to the size it was at prior to the Deluge, and now far exceeds it, to the extent that the nine holds created for them by the Ormr are no longer suitable to house the entirety of their population, and they find themselves having to spread out into the forests of Ethlarnashem. Yet no matter how much they petition the Ormr for new homes, their creators do not oblige; too busy they are with tending to their great gardens and rebuilding their own holds. Over the years, resentment begins building within the Leskeln at this treatment.

The relationship between the Leskeln and the other wyrms is permanently severed as a result, and the two will always be enemies from this point onwards.

Ridden with guilt after the Drepana, Lyrielle attempts to start over by creating a new sentient race in place of the Leskeln. Born of monkeys, enlarged and transformed to have less hair, she calls them humans, and for the next nine hundred years shepherds their development throughout Pretheya. After ten gruelling years of warfare, the conflict between the Wyrms and the Leskeln is over. Roughly four fifths of the Ormr living within Pretheya lie dead, their corpses scattered across the blasted plains of what was once Arcadia, the Fyrstbairn having suffered a similar amount of casualties.   Though victorious, the Leskeln have been devastated. Many entire generations of their species have now been rendered extinct, with more yet losing their souls to the horrific consequences of Theos overuse. Rather than pursue the last remnants of the Ormr and the Fyrstbairn as they flee the continent, they choose to return to Ethlarnashem and attempt to rebuild what has been lost.   Peace reigns at last, and with it, a sense of quiet not felt since before the Law of Mortality was enacted.

    Cultural event

It has now been two decades since Lyrielle's departure. For many years, the Thousandforms' faith in their mother did not once waver, but children have now been born and grown to adulthood without ever laying eyes upon the Rainbow Serpent. The eldest among them find themselves at a loss as they are forced to regale the youth with tales of a figure they have never seen, and for all the Thousandforms know, may never see again. Discord begins to grip their race.

Hundreds of unique species die, triggering an ecological collapse that wipes out yet further species, spiralling on for decades to come. By the time the aftershocks from the initial deaths have faded, the vast majority of megaflora and megafauna have been rendered extinct, and only few species born of the Ormr's designs remain alive. The majority of the star's lifeforms now consist of those created by the Law of Mortality at its enactment rather than those created by Wyrms.

No living soul now remains among their people who can claim to have seen their great mother, and as a result, the Thousandforms now slowly begin to let go of their traditional teachings. The sense of unity and oneness that Lyrielle had fostered among them had left with her, and now with the eldest generation among them passing on, for the first time, the Thousandforms begin to fight among themselves. By the half-way point of the century, there will be over a dozen independent tribes within Intersedra where there had before only been one people.

Unbeknownst to Lyrielle however, the creature's existence was sufficient to tear a small hole in the Law of Mortality, causing the systems of Arcana and Theos to begin functioning in ways other than how they had originally been intended to, and causing Mortalos to begin manifesting within the world. Mere days later, Lyrielle would find herself gripped by divinity, and would be forced to use what she had learned in the phoenix's creation to kill and reincarnate herself in the body of a Thousandforms, in order to escape being forcibly elevated to godhood.

A wyrm by the name of Grunbeld is the first to break the peace in Belyria. He declares a region immediately to the south of the Ormr's Rest mountains of which he was governor under the Grannrormrlen to be his personal fiefdom, and declares himself to be the rightful heir to Forfir. Within months, half a dozen other wyrms have followed in his footsteps, and by the turn of the year, Belyria has collapsed into more than two dozen separate kingdoms ruled by influential wyrms. Thus begins the age of the Wyrm Kings.

The current ruler of the empire decides to stage an invasion into Zemet in an attempt to reconquer it where Forfir failed. Despite having many more Fyrstbairn than in their original invasion, the Grannr forces are thwarted by the revelation that the Ashborn can wield Theos, and they are driven back. The Ashborn do not stop there however and begin pouring out from Zemet, intent on shattering the Grannrormrlen for good this time.

Armies of Ashborn sweep out from Zemet and into northern Heralya, tearing through the unprepared Grannr forces before proceeding east towards Pasdjit. There, they march in and liberate the polity from wyrm control without any resistance from the population. Pasdjit then falls under the control of the Ashborn, who now control the site of Lihwen's death. A religious dialogue occurs between the leaders of Zemet and Pasdjit, and the two people realise their faiths are remarkably similar. This new union of the faithful leads to the declaration of the Blazing Empire, Rukhmar's temporal domain upon earth. In addition, a new calendar is created which starts at the date of Lihwen's death, making it 150 FF in the present.

For the first time in centuries, an army of humans and Fyrstbairn sweeps east into Heralya, easily overrunning the humans there who cannot use Theos and regaining control of the region.   However, they underestimate the response this will trigger in the mainland Pretheyan nations. The Theocracy of Zemet, considering Grannr expansionism to pose a risk to their religious hegemony over the continent, calls for a crusade against the Grannrormrlen, bidding the nations of Pretheya to take up arms and march to the west to drive out the Wyrms. The Landamaeri War, as it will come to be known, will be one of the bloodiest Pretheya has ever seen, being fought in multiple stages with intermittent breaks of up to a decade in-between, and will only conclusively end nearly a century after the first battle begins.
