MILLENNIUM CITY NEWS NETWORK - CAN POWERED BEINGS REVERSE TIME?
The commentator suddenly pauses, distracted, his eyes abandoning the autocue along with his witty remarks about the sporting results as his finger presses against his ear. He pauses, frowning, clearly listening to something that the viewers can’t hear, then he straightens up, leans forward slightly and addresses the camera directly… “Folks – we have some breaking news – we’re going live now to Gwen Goodwin, who’s in Hawking Science Park…”
The view shifts to Gwen Goodwin, microphone in hand, her long ginger hair pinned up. Behind her is the familiar scene of the Hawking Science Park – blue and red lights flash in the background although - perhaps surprisingly - there are no columns of smoke or other signs of destruction...
She nods almost imperceptibly “Thanks Bryce. I’m here in Hawking Science Park where some extraordinary and almost unbelievable events have just taken place. We were lucky enough to be filming when we saw the group of powered beings known as the Millennium Marvels attack a lab behind us. Shortly afterwards the building all but collapsed in a fiery explosion. The vehicles left the scene – one of them disappearing in front of our very eyes. Then – and believe me I can hardly believe I’m saying this myself – the building itself ‘unblew’ up - almost as if time was reversing itself, reconstructing the building…”
The viewers can now see the footage that’s just transmitted to the studio – the relevant parts being played in slow motion: the Millennium Marvels storming in; the building blowing up; the car disappearing; the building reconstructing itself…
The view cuts back to Gwen, the word ‘LIVE’ pulsing on the top left of the screen. She shakes her head slightly and looks faintly bemused before carrying on like the consummate professional she’s known to be.
“Can one of the Millennium Marvels reverse time? Did they rebuild the lab? Why did they attack the lab? All questions still to be answered. But whatever happened here, the Marvels were right in the heart of it. Whether for good or ill – for heroism or villainy - perhaps only time will tell… But either way, Millennium City News Network will be here…”
