Vaelthar the Fractured

Vaelthar the Fractured

Race   Human (mutated by Geardaz’s corruption)   Date of Birth   14 / 9 / 412 PR (Though warped to appear in his prime)

Early Life (412–435 PR)

Vaelthar was born in the Tibur-controlled borderlands of Abritus, where magic was outlawed. His father was a smith, his mother a healer—both executed for witchcraft when Vaelthar was a boy. Orphaned, he was taken as a conscript soldier. Unlike most, he hungered for knowledge, breaking into arcane vaults and stealing scraps of forbidden scrolls.   He soon found that his mind bent too easily toward sorcery. His dreams were plagued with visions of shifting skies, endless teal horizons, and laughter in tongues that broke his sanity. He was dismissed from the Tibur legions after killing three officers in a fit of delirium, claiming they had “turned into faceless things.”

Fall into Madness (435–440 PR)

Homeless, cursed, and half-starved, Vaelthar wandered into the swamps near Nedder Reach, where he encountered renegade Morvael necromancers. They taught him how to bind spirits, but his power spiraled beyond their control. In one failed ritual, he called forth a fragment of Geardaz’s will—the hand-shaped landmass itself looming in his visions. The Morvael cast him out, fearing he was marked.

Becoming Geardaz’s Champion (440 PR)

When the veil between planes split during a minor Blood Eclipse, Vaelthar willingly stepped into the teal wastelands of Geardaz. There he was unmade and remade: his veins filled with living crystal, his eyes cracked like broken glass, and his mind bound to whispers that warped reality around him. He endured the endless trials of Geardaz’s domain, defeating aberrant hosts of spearmen and mind flayers by letting the madness consume him.   Where most lost their identity, Vaelthar embraced it. He carved runes of Geardaz’s will into his flesh and rose as a Champion of Trickery and Aberration. His reward was immortality twisted through unstable magic: his body constantly fracturing and reforming, always in flux.

Now – Servant of Geardaz and the God Hands

Vaelthar serves not as a general like Ivar, but as a corrupter. Where Ivar embodies brute immortality, Vaelthar is the harbinger of distortion, sent to unravel minds, warp loyalties, and spread the teal crystals of Geardaz’s wasteland into the mortal plane. He forges cults, tempts sorcerers, and delights in breaking reality’s laws before his enemies’ eyes.   Among the God Hands’ legions, he is Geardaz’s answer to the Silverbrand: a weapon not of strength, but of deception. He is whispered of as “the Fractured Mirror”—for to face him is to see your own fears, your own flesh, your own soul broken into pieces and twisted into Geardaz’s design.
