Kasien Ash-Fall

Kasien Ash-Fall

Chaotic Good Male Shadar-kai Elf   Wizard (Bladesinger)   Origin: Kanbajan Kingdom, Far East-South Platera   Age: 21 | Height: 6'1 | Weight: 195 lbs | Hair: White | Eyes: Violet   Worships: Grilik, the Wandering Star – god of knowledge, change, and the unseen   Family: Vaelith (Older Brother) Yshari (Older Sister) Vhalis (Cousin)

The Vanishing in Kanbajan

Kasien was born in the moss-drenched shadows of the Kanbajan Kingdom, a realm of ancient jungle temples, serpent cults, and blood-red lotuses that only bloom under eclipses where tigers stalk temple ruins and the monsoons drown magic into the soil. He was the second son of the Ash-Fall lineage, a line of twilight seers and weather-callers tied to Grilik’s mysteries. Life in Kanbajan was both elegant and cruel—knowledge was sacred, but magic was feared if it did not serve the hierarchy.   When Kasien was just ten years old, his beloved cousin and caretaker, Vhalis, vanished during the Night of the Crimson Bloom. The trees screamed. Birds died mid-flight. A rift opened over the river temple and something—a force of spiraling glyphs and shadowed fingers—claimed her.   When Kasien awoke from the magical feedback, only ash remained where she had stood. The jungle did not forgive, nor did it explain.   At the age of 11, Kasien’s life shattered. His elder sister, Yshari, a gifted weatherwitch and seer, was performing a ceremonial spell when a tear in reality opened—black, humming with energy, carved in spiral glyphs no one could translate. She was ripped from the world in a flash of violet and never seen again.   Only Kasien had seen the sigils clearly. Symbols of the God Hands—burned into his memory, warped in his dreams.

The Path of the Scholar-Sword

Unlike his family, Kasien did not try to bury the memory. He chased it. Obsessed, he scoured Kanbajan’s forbidden ruins and learned quickly that the symbols left behind mirrored those of the God Hands, whispered curses in the east and banned outright in Toran.   Kasien became obsessed with magic—not to control it, but to understand why it took his sister. He abandoned Kanbajan's prescribed magical studies and instead collected heretical scrolls, old Urlalamai sand-clay tablets, and forbidden Toranic glyphwork. He believed that the magic which took her was not arcane—it was divine, or worse, anti-divine.   Kasien poured his life into studying magic—not from the traditional schools of Kanbajan's spirit-mages, but from forbidden scrolls smuggled across the desert from Urlalamai and stolen pages of Toranic Godhandology. As he matured, his talents expanded into swordplay—his body, lithe and swift, honed in tandem with arcane force.   In his search for answers, Kasien followed broken magical signatures across Platera. His journey led him south into Kavastu,   He abandoned the path of the passive mage and sought out real answers. He found them in Kavastu, to the south—among the Black Dragon Scales, a scattered guild of swordmages and rogue spellblades who revered strength and secrets. It was there that Kasien trained under Eiran Blighttongue, a retired scout of the Scales who taught him Bladesinging, warning him that mastery of magic alone was not enough. "If you seek what took her," Eiran said, "you'll need to cut through more than lies."   Kasien became a warrior-scholar. He didn’t fear getting his hands dirty. He feared losing someone again.

Across the World, Following Shadows

At 18, Kasien left Kanbajan with a staff, a blade, and a satchel of scrolls. He followed whispers of abductions and magical disappearances—tracking them across seven empires.   Urlalamai Red Desert – He disguised himself as a sand-reader and infiltrated a cult that worshipped a severed God Hand. He saw red sigils burned into oasis stones—identical to those that took Vhalis.   Vindham & Aswarbin Jungles – In vine-choked temples, he found echoes of his sister’s voice trapped in echo-crystals, screaming in reverse.   Jazayrah Empire – Among opulent towers and star-priests, he uncovered records of God Hand Amulets: ten relics given to mortals who became instruments of divine entropy.   Bhrytyros & Abyss Empires – He passed through plains and wastelands, speaking with the mad, the dying, the enlightened. Each gave him a name, a location, a story of someone vanishing into magic without a trace.   In each empire, the same strange pattern: people taken, time fractured, magic twisted. Each trail led westward—toward Abritus and Tudor.

The Ten Amulets & the Truth Behind the Rift

He became a scholar of forbidden things, recording the known history of the Ten God Hand Amulets. He has never held one himself—only felt their aftershocks: dead zones in the weave, people drained of time, and animals speaking backwards before dying.   Kasien has never seen a God Hand Amulet with his own eyes, but he has followed their legacy like a cartographer mapping hell. He learned that one of the current ten wearers, a figure known only as the "Pale Fencer", passed through the same jungle where Vhalis and Yshari vanished. The timing, the signs—it was not coincidence.   Kasien now believes the amulets are not just artifacts—they’re keys, or prisons, or both. And those who wear them are cursed not just with power, but with purpose—a purpose they may not even understand.

The Road Ends in Whitestone

Now, at 21, Kasien has arrived in the cold highlands of Abritus, standing at the edge of the Whitestone Valley. The city itself is surrounded by misted mountains and lush farmland—but beneath its soil, he feels something ancient humming. Magic here is tainted, purposeful.   He believes one of the Amulet bearers—the one tied to Vhalis's and Yshari's abduction—has passed through or resides in Whitestone.   He does not yet know who they are.   But he will find them.   And he will finally uncover what happened that night in Kanbajan… and whether Vhalis and Yshari are still alive—or if her soul was bound to something far more terrible.

Kasien’s Core Traits:

Magic-Obsessed – not for power, but for truth and protection   Trained Bladesinger – every movement precise, elegant, deadly   Devoted to Grilik – views the god more as a teacher than a master   Sleeps little – plagued by dreams of glyphs and dark hands   Uncover the truth behind Yshari’s disappearance.   Map the magical pattern of the God Hand abductions.   Witness and eventually touch a God Hand Amulet.   Help the Black Dragon Scales recover their missing kin.   Discover if those taken by the “sigil-magic” are alive, dead, or imprisoned in a higher plane.   Rewrite magic into something safer—if it doesn’t kill him first.

Kasien Ash-Fall’s Known Magical Discoveries

  1. The Spiral Runes of Grief   Location: River Temple Ruins, Kanbajan Discovery: The very site where Vhalis vanished revealed a swirling spiral of glyphs that burned themselves into Kasien’s memory. Through analysis and divination, he determined the symbols were non-Elvish, not Arcane, but divine-adjacent—linked to the language of the God Hands. He believes they represent loss, transfer, and inversion of presence. Effect: Anyone meditating near these runes experiences visions of people they’ve lost, but reversed—as if the dead are watching the living.   2. The Amber-Soul Echo Crystals   Location: Vinedeath Temple, Aswarbin Jungles Discovery: Kasien found large, yellow soul crystals buried beneath roots that echoed back recorded screams in reversed speech. When cast with Comprehend Languages and Detect Magic, the voices translated into pleading questions:   “Why am I still here?” “What did the Hand want from me?” Theory: Kasien believes these are resonance echoes from those who were taken—perhaps partially absorbed or stored in magical frequency.   3. The Dead Magic Grove   Location: Border of Urlalamai and Vindham Discovery: A 400-yard grove where no magic functions at all—not even cantrips or magical items. Through weeks of mapping and arcane testing, Kasien discovered the grove is centered on a buried stone tablet carved with an eyeless skeletal hand—one of the oldest known depictions of a God Hand seal. Effect: Prolonged time in the grove causes emotional numbness and hallucinations. Kasien stayed for five days. He claimed he saw Vhalis walking across the horizon, barefoot, whispering “It’s not a prison, Kasien… It’s a mirror.”   4. The “Handprint Residue” Effect   Location: Southern Kavastu caves, shared with Black Dragon Scales Discovery: When investigating the site of a Black Dragon Scales disappearance, Kasien found magic-laced blood fused with quartz stone. Under Identify, it glowed with necrotic pulses and radiated transmutation aura. Theory: It is not a death signature, but a “mark of chosen prey.” Those marked may be visible to whatever entity or system governs the Amulets. He now fears he may be marked himself.   5. The Broken Hourglass Spellframe   Location: A ruin-market in the Jazayrah Empire Discovery: Purchased for coin and secrets, this fractured relic was once a temporal stabilizer—used by ancient mages to anchor spellcasting in zones of unstable time. Kasien modified it using Void Quartz and a scribe's focus, creating:   Chrono-Slice (Custom Spell)   1 action, Concentration   Temporarily slows time within a 5ft radius for 3 seconds. Movement through the space becomes difficult terrain. Can interrupt or delay spell release. Limitations: He can only use it once per day, or the device begins drawing on his own memories for fuel.   6. The Star-Swallowed Sigil Map   Location: Crafted by Kasien using dream-visions and magical alignments Discovery: Kasien has mapped over 37 known magical disappearance events across Platera. Using constellations and Divination, he realized many of them form spiral pathways aligning with the celestial movements of Grilik—his god. Theory: The God Hand Amulets may rotate across the world like gears. Grilik may not oppose the Hands—he may record them.   7. The Dream-Contact with Amulet Bearer   Location: Plains of Bhrytyros Discovery: During a fevered trance brought on by exhaustion and corrupted tea-leaves (unintended), Kasien entered a lucid dream. There he saw a Goblin Girl with a missing Eye and in black leather armour with the Black Dragon Scale Symbol on it standing in a field of red and flesh atop a bloodied battlefield of frozen time with a a giant stone hand not to far with five giant figures standing on each of it's fingers and a ball of magical energy in the palm of the stone hand, where demons where eating the dead and dying, the Goblin girl is wearing one of the Ten Amulets. She whispered:   “You seek the thief of your blood, but we are all stolen things now.” Result: He believes this was his first true mental contact with a Amulet bearer, though not the one he has been tracking since Kanbajan all them years ago.   8. Spell Creation: Ashfall's Mark of Echoes   Spell Type: Divination / Illusion (Ritual) Effect: Kasien created a ritual that can trace residual soul-imprints left behind in magical anomalies. It requires:   Ash from a god-touched site   A hair or blood sample of the “lost” individual   A silver mirror from before the Year 500 PR Function: For 1 hour, the spell creates echoing silhouettes of the individual’s final moments. Non-verbal. Traumatic. He’s used it once… on Vhalis’s bedroll. She was praying. Then she looked up. Then she was gone.

Kasien’s Magical Tools of Note:

Vhalis's Moon-Blade Pommel: All that remains of her; functions as a minor spell focus. Occasionally glows near strong amulet echoes.   Fractured Hourglass Device: Prototype tool for Chrono-Slice spell.   Scrollbook of Forbidden Sigils: Contains sketches of all 10 God Hand Amulet markings—6 incomplete.   Bone-ring of Grilik’s Silence: Blocks one Divination spell per long rest. Wary but kind – he will help strangers in danger, but his mind is always elsewhere   Alone but not aimless – He’s on a path few dare to walk
