Cormick Thorne

“Gold bleeds nations. Secrets ruin kings. I sell both.”

Race: Half-Drow   Eyes: Golden, sharp and predatory   Hair: Long, black   Skin: Ashen olive (a mix of elven and human tones)   Alignment: Lawful Evil   Profession: Master Rogue, Guildlord of the Ashveil Ledger   Known For: Creating a trans-empire criminal syndicate under a veneer of professionalism and record-keeping.   Familiar/Companion: “Ledger,” a small, intelligent blue dragon wyrmling with piercing sapphire eyes and an appetite for gold ink and coins.   Notable Ties:   – The Thorne Bloodline (distant illegitimate branch)   – Cipher Vane, rogue operative and informant   – Domino, enforcer and assassin within the Ledger's structure   – God Hands Rumors: Holds blackmail documents against multiple faiths and cults

The Hidden Thorn

Cormick’s origins are obscured by coin, shame, and calculation.   A bastard child of a lesser Thorne noble and a Drow mistress from the Athketal underworld, Cormick was raised in the shadows of aristocracy—taught to read ledgers and kill emotion in equal measure.   He was denied a title, but given an education. And he learned quickly that money, not blood, made the world move.

The Ashveil Ledger Is Born

In his early twenties, after fleeing an attempted execution over a scandal involving forged contracts and blackmail in Goffik, Cormick vanished.   Three years later, a new guild appeared in Athketal—subtle, efficient, and terrifyingly effective.   The Ashveil Ledger was not like other thieves’ guilds:   It didn’t rob blindly—it audited its targets.   It bought silence, sold information, and cleaned evidence.   It turned crime into investment, and blackmail into stock options.   Its motto?   “Everything has a price. Everyone leaves a trace.”   Cormick did not wear a mask. He wore a suit. He kept files. He enforced order. And when needed, he removed liabilities with a dagger coated in law ink.

Cipher & Domino

Cipher Vane   Cormick recruited Cipher as a field operative and freelance contact—recognizing in them a reckless brilliance, a flair for subtlety, and most importantly: debt.   He provided:   Escape from execution.   Tools.   Information pipelines.   In exchange? Loyalty. Access. Secrets.   Domino   Domino was not recruited. Domino was found after killing a rival agent, and rather than executing her, Cormick offered a position:   “You kill. I clean. Let’s build something better.”   Now Domino acts as executioner, fixer, and deterrent, a cold blade with smiling teeth who enforces Cormick’s will when ink fails.

The Cities of the Ledger

Cormick has expanded the Ashveil Ledger into a multi-empire network, each cell operating under local customs but loyal to central directives:   Athketal (Abyss Empire): Central seat. Black tower office with hidden vaults beneath a merchant bank façade.   Micin (Abysse Empire): Smuggler and relic laundering hub. Known for auctioning cursed items.   Silvereach (Tudor Empire): Operates under noble cover as a “tax negotiation firm.” Bribes half the court.   Whitestone (Abritus Empire): Sub-guild focused on magical forgery, memory theft, and illicit enchantment sales.   Tibur Romata (New Tibur Empire): Newest cell, quietly infiltrating the reconstructed political system. Rumored to have bought off two senators and blackmailed a general.

Ledger – The Blue Wyrmling

A gift from a dying arcane collector Cormick once spared, Ledger is a blue dragon wyrmling, raised not with cruelty but with gold, books, and riddles.   Ledger:   Speaks Common, Undercommon, and Draconic   Acts as a living vault and assistant   Often roosts in Cormick’s study, sleeping atop coin piles and written contracts   Some believe Ledger is growing far too fast, as if the dragon is feeding on ambition as much as wealth.

Rumors and Secrets

Cormick is said to:   Possess evidence of divine corruption in at least one church tied to the God Hands   Have bought protection from an archfey in exchange for the soul of a forgotten noble   Know the true heir of the Tibur line, and keep them hidden as leverage   Be slowly turning Cipher into his heir, despite their unpredictability

Unknown Offspring?

There are whispered rumors within the Ashveil network that Cormick:   Fathered a child with a vampire courtesan from Tibur Romata   May be grooming a successor (possibly Cipher Vane or someone unknown), but has no known legitimate heir
