Bouclier Inn
On a small street in Chambéry on the corner of one of the smaller chateau of the city lies relatively small, easily overlooked Inn. It is not the fanciest Inn, nor the most luxurious inn. It does not have any special beer or exclusively pretty staff, yet the rooms in this Inn go for sky-high prices. Many legends surround this Inn, for despite its unassuming looks this Inn is quite something special. It has a permanent sphere of dead magic within its walls.
Architecture
Nowadays the inn is a 100ft x 40ft, 4 stories (10ft each) building with walls containing thick lead elements. Each day a high adept from École d'Acana goes to the inn and reinforces the enchantment. Despite the rumours about the lack of dead zone on the top floor, the bottom floor, containing the bar, is completely magic free and is normally heavy guarded. The inn also have private rooms designed for meetings on the 1st floor with the rest of the floors being rooms to sleep in (if you have the money). Many say it is one of the most secure places in the city which is also the reason many high profile people hold their most important meetings there.
History
Many years ago this area became magically dead, nobody really knows what happened, despite the seemingly endless amount of excellent guesses. The first record of the area is from 152 AS where a group of Druids mentions the area in their notes and calls it the "Bouclier" they used in the "Great battle of Heroes", whatever that means. After this, the area lies largely unused for many years until 322 AD where it was discovered the area is shrinking due to its exposure to the elements and natural Acana of the realm sieving into it from all sides. Plasir had become somewhat well-established and therefore started pouring resources into initiating a large-scale research project to preserve the area. It was discovered that heavy metals could slow the flow of acana into the area and a huge 6 story building was constructed around the area. Most of the building was taken up by an enormous box lined with huge metal plates on all of its exterior walls. The box contained 5 floors, each 20 ft high, each floor was 200 x 200 feet large with huge pillars for integrity. The rest of the building was constructed as a stepped pyramid for budgetary and structural reasons. In this part of the building resided the researchers who kept monitoring and trying to find a better solution. There was only one way in and out of the box and the door was only opened once a day to let researchers, and occasionally cleaning staff, in and/or out.
It was eventually discovered that walls with lead plates within could nearly stop the progress of acana flow. However, the amount of lead needed to fill the walls of the cube would be nearly impossible to find and certainly impossible to pay for within the budget of the project. Some magical techniques were found among the people most adept in acana in the land that could enhance the effect and keep the flow out. The project was abandoned and taken up many times during history but eventually, due to a Senate vote, it was decided to privatise the endeavour. A businessman by the name of Ludovic Dúval bought the rights of the area and established the inn. Despite many protests from the local population, he tore down the giant structure and with his own personal fund build a structure that more or less resembles what still stands in its place. The magical dead zone in the area around the new structure quickly faded however due to his seemingly bottomless wallet and strong connections to the high level of Arcane adepts in Plaisir he managed to keep the integrity of the spell within the wall of the Inn. The Inn has seen its fair share of renovations over the years, and with each breach in the wall, the spell seems to fade, just a bit. Some say that they have managed to create simple cantrips, and even low-level spells in some of the rooms on the top floor, and recently a renovation included lead elements in the floor between the 3rd and 4th floor.
