The Zemaen Empire
Led by Markos Fyrch, the Zemaen empire resides within the vast territory consumed by the Infernal Rift, a piece of land where abyssal forces run abound and unchecked. Markos is also the leader of the dreaded Blackguard Legion. This, combined with the fact that Markos had made a Deal with the Devil, makes the Zemaen Empire seem like a devellish, evil empire, full of backstabbers and murders. And while this does have some truth to this, the Zemaen empire is not as evil as many think. Some forget that the Zemaen Empire allied with the Kingdom of Ventar and the Xev Enclave to drive off Zersnim and his army of Chained.
The Zemaen Empire lies within the Abyssal Rift, and within the eye of the rift is their capital city, Ogurant. While many small villages live within Wildroil, as is called the area outside the eye, Ogurant is the only 'safe' place in the rift, as safe as you could be inside a living fragment of Hell. Ogurant is a giant obsidian spire in the sky, where the residents work and live during Sunrise, but in Sunfall, the entire city moves belowground, in the mirror counterpart of the city. The reason behind this strange migration is unknown, but some say that during Sunfall evil terrors come out of Wildroil to plague the city. Whether this is part of Markos' deal with the Devil or completely unintentional, the threat that devils can invade the city at any moment cause most citizens of Ogurant to live in constant fear.
Another well known location within the reaches of the Zemaen Empire is the Fleeters Market, so-called because thieves, or Fleeters as their known in Phodael, come there to prepare for heists and to sell what they stole. The Fleeter's Market is the best place to buy or sell priceless magical objects discreetly. Although many illegal goods are sold there, the Zemaen Empire has not closed it down, against Ventar and Xev pressuring, because the Zemian Empire contracts a percent of all the money received there.
Although many roads exist within the rift, the most traveled one has been lovingly called Nightmare Alley, because it's a dimly-lit alley with dark shadows and growling beasts of horror. Although deemed the 'safest' way to travel through the Zemaen Empire, it is by no means 'safe'.
