Astorians

Origin: Many humans were unhappy about the magical inequality of their kin in the early years of Human Civilization, and instead chose to reject the supernatural reality around them that they couldn't perceive. Through their jealousy a deep hatred took root, and a new human ideal was born. To them, the only law of nature was 'Survival of the Fittest'. They trained hard, designed the most lethal weapons they could think of, and took what they wanted from anyone weaker than them. This organization of elite combatants led to the First War to consume the entire continent and a rival Empire of Humans, Astorel.
Overwhelmed by the history, expertise and wisdom of the different peoples of the continent they began to interpret these differences as condescending. They became bitter towards the Oroks, the Elz'rii and others. They quickly disregarded Beastkin as animals in order to establish themselves as superior beings. This animosity and discrimination became dangerous, and violent, and from the dark spirit of these people rose a champion. A young charismatic man, who believed humans were the ultimate beings in the world, second to none, and that they should make their claim upon the other kingdoms so they would understand their superiority.

During the Human Invasions:
The champion was named Astor. He rose through the ranks of his king's military, eventually becoming the king's personal guard. After a timely accident that ended in the king's death, Astor, who told the people that assassins from another land were responsible for their loss, was established as the regent of the land. His ambition was to avenge his king and bring justice to his people by spreading their kingdom to every corner of the world. Due to the bitterness many of these humans had built up over the decades, there were many violent and dangerous men who were eager to join his cause and make up the ranks of one of the most despised armies in history. They would proceed to subjugate many peoples, especially beastkin, even committing genocide on an entire civilization. Their reign of terror lasted for many difficult years and the world was changed drastically. They nearly conquered every people as they had intended but suddenly, after a terrible defeat in the dunes outside Staropica, they retreated to their kingdom and the world went quiet.

Post Human Invasions:
When the alliance of The Collective raided Astorel they destroyed the kingdom with all the anger and pain they unleashed from the suffering they endured, using extreme prejudice. The majority of Astorians were purged from their villages, with small groups of refugees fleeing into the wilderness, where they might be caught later on and killed, or captured. It was a dark time for both sides of the conflict as the different kingdoms gave into their most animalistic impulses in the name of war, and humans were hunted and slaughtered. Those few who survived their escape into The Wild migrated to a distant land and changed their names so that once the world found them, they wouldn't kill their children for their ancestors' sins.

Current Status:
Currently assumed to be an "endangered people" it is believed that the number of living Astorians left in the world can be counted on one hand. Whether they are truly gone and consigned to the annals of history or not, no one has reported finding an Astorian in over 100 years.
