Troll Moss

The opposite of the smell of roses

Troll moss is a type of moss, which has unique smell absorption properties. It got the name because it smells extremely foul, although you would need to stick your nose all the way into it, to smell it.
Troll moss absorbs all smells, in its vicinity, which makes it an incredible smell insulator. Due to its high moisture requirement, it is generally not well suited to insulated walls against foul smells.
It is found across the entire world, in dark and humid places.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Troll moss is a brown moss, with a very coarse texture. Patches of troll moss are usually lumpy and feel dry to the touch.

Genetics and Reproduction

As with most types of moss, troll moss spreads through spores. It requires high levels of humidity to thrive, but if given the right conditions, it can spread across large areas in a matter of weeks.

Ecology and Habitats

Troll moss is very sensitive to light, as such it is only found in dark places, with high levels of humidity. It can be found in caves, and sometimes even in sewer systems if spores manage to make it in there. It rarely spreads outside these dark areas, as even the spores are sensitive to light, and will be rendered infertile if exposed to sunlight.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Troll moss extracts nutrients from water, and are fairly adaptable, as long as there's moisture for it to feed on. Its size will depend on the availability of moisture, and if the humidity level is high, the moss will grow into a solid patch, which can be as much as ten centimeters thick.

Biological Cycle

Troll moss starts out as a spore, too small for the naked eye. When the spore ripens it disperses its seeds, and if there's enough moisture in the are the moss will start to grow. Given the right circumstances, a patch of troll moss can live indefinitely, if left undisturbed.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Troll moss is sometimes used as insolation against smells, like under the floor of buildings close to sewage.
