The Mori Tree

The Mori tree is a magical, evergreen specimen native to the frigid landscapes of the North. Growing to an average of 50-80 meters (6-8 meters in diameter), Mori trees are one of the largest known trees to exist in Phantaforas, and the fifth largest tree to grow in its native lands of Chausmia and Trise. The largest recorded Mori tree was measured to be around 100 meters in height and 10 meters in diameter, which lived to be almost 4900 years old if it hadn't been destroyed during the Blood War.

Mori trees have significantly thick and furrowed bone-white bark that provides fire protection to the massive entity, producing ornate spiral patterns on the surface. Its leaves are alternate and spirally arranged, narrow, jet-black, 4–16 cm long and 0.5–2 cm broad, with finely serrated margins and long acuminate tips; it does not shed leaves during the winter and instead constantly replaces them throughout the year.

Mori trees produce fleshy, white, round-shaped stone fruits that glow a subtle blue. It seems that it and its thick centre seed offer different effects. While the flesh of the fruit is an effective aphrodisiac, the seed is known to completely halt all magic when consumed. Simply holding the fruit with its seed still inside may cause power fluctuations in the holder - because of this, the process of acquiring the fruits can be a difficult process when done alone. When left unharvested, Mori seeds have no way of leaving their parent tree and will, instead, continuously grow flesh around it whenever it is lost to preserve itself for future harvesting.

Mori trees bear great significance in Hydrurga culture and traditions. One of the main Hydrurga deities is known simply as the Great Mori; it is believed that what now is the Great Mori was once the very Aelvanir that had led them to the North. Many theorise that the Great Mori exists, largest of all beings, hidden in Phantaforas. However, nobody has even come close to being on the right track.
