Return to Phandalin

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES

After a restful night in the comfortable chambers of the Stonehill Inn, your party awakens to the familiar sounds of Phandalin coming to life. The smell of a hearty breakfast wafts through the inn, and the promise of a new day fills the air.   Toblen Stonehill, the innkeeper, greets you with a warm smile as you descend the stairs. The townsfolk have already started their day, and the buzz of activity in the town square hints at a renewed sense of security.   Harbin Wester, the townmaster, approaches your party with a nod of gratitude.

"Your actions have not gone unnoticed," he acknowledges. "The defeat of the goblin and kobold alliance has bolstered the town's morale, and we owe you a debt of gratitude."

As you enjoy your breakfast, a town messenger approaches, bearing a sealed letter with the town's emblem. It's an invitation from Harbin Wester to Townmaster's Hall. Curiosity piqued, your party makes its way to the town's administrative center.   Inside Townmaster's Hall, Harbin Wester sits behind his desk, a map of Phandalin spread before him. He gestures for your party to join him.

"Your success has earned you the town's trust,"

  he says.

"However, challenges still linger. A known threat the Redbrand bandits continue to persist, and there are other matters that require capable hands."

Harbin explains that the Redbrands have continued their oppressive activities in the town, extorting and terrorizing the locals. He believes that your party, having proven its mettle against the goblin and kobold alliance, is well-equipped to address this new threat.   The townmaster also mentions rumors of strange occurrences in the nearby ruins of Thundertree, hinting at potential dangers that may need investigation.

"Phandalin's prosperity is intertwined with your actions,"

  Harbin adds.

"I trust that you can bring peace and stability to our humble town."

With newfound tasks before you, the adventure in Phandalin takes another turn. The Redbrand bandits await your intervention, and the mysteries of Wave Echo Cave beckon. As you leave Townmaster's Hall, the sun illuminates the town, casting a hopeful light on the challenges that lie ahead. You also need to turn in your spoils and get paid as well as report your already acknowledged victory to Linene. There are also several key figures of note you haven’t met that also need your introduction. There is much to do but time is of little consequence as rushing to anything will only produce poor results.   The path is yours to tread, and the fate of Phandalin rests in the hands of your party. The next chapter unfolds, and the adventures in this mining town continue with each step taken beneath the sunlit skies of the Sword Coast.   With a sense of accomplishment, your party decides to pay a visit to Linene Graywind at the Lionshield Coster. The journey through Phandalin's streets is met with appreciative nods from townsfolk who have heard of your successful expedition against the goblin and kobold alliance.   Linene, ever the astute businesswoman, looks up from her ledgers as your party enters. A cautious smile forms on her face as she sees the trophies of your victory—the goblin and kobold heads.

"It seems you've dealt with the marauders,"

she observes.   You confirm your success and lay the severed heads on her counter.

"The Verdant Wilds are safer now,"

you declare.   Linene's eyes widen as she takes in the gruesome trophies.

"You've done a great service to Phandalin,"

  she admits, her appreciation evident.

"As promised, your reward is well-deserved."

She hands over a pouch of coins, a token of gratitude from the Lionshield Coster. [The party gains 75gp]   Feeling the weight of accomplishment, your party decides to share more information. You present Linene with a journal found amidst the goblin and kobold encampment, believing it to be Gundren's journal. The pages detail Gundren's interest in Wave Echo Cave, a location shrouded in mystery and lore.   Linene's brow furrows as she reads through the journal.

"Wave Echo Cave, you say?"

  she murmurs.

"That's a place of great significance. It's said to be the location of a lost mine with untold riches. Gundren's venture might be more complex than we thought."

Your party, now intrigued by the mention of Wave Echo Cave, decides to inquire further.

"We also noticed an unusual organization among the goblins and kobolds,"

  you mention.

"They were working together in a way we haven't seen before. Any insights on that?"

Linene leans back, a thoughtful expression on her face.

"It's uncommon for goblins and kobolds to collaborate,"

  she admits.

"These creatures tend to be more opportunistic and chaotic. A unified alliance hints at a greater force behind them, orchestrating their actions. It could be a sign of a more significant threat in the region."

As your party leaves the Lionshield Coster, the newfound knowledge about Gundren's interest in Wave Echo Cave and the mysterious organization behind the goblin and kobold alliance weigh heavily on your minds. Phandalin, though temporarily relieved of one threat, remains a town entangled in a web of secrets and challenges.   Eager to prepare for the challenges that lie ahead, your party decides to peruse the wares offered by Linene Graywind at the Lionshield Coster. The cozy atmosphere of the trading post is filled with the scent of leather, metal, and various goods.   Linene, ever the shrewd merchant, welcomes your party's interest in her selection.

"If you're in need of supplies, you've come to the right place,"

she declares with a smile.   As you browse the shelves, you find a variety of adventuring essentials. Sturdy weapons, well-crafted armor, potions, and other useful items are neatly organized. Linene is more than willing to answer any questions and offer advice on the best gear suited for your party's needs.   A seasoned adventurer in your party notices a particularly fine blade, its edge gleaming under the store's ambient light. Linene notices the interest and provides details about its craftsmanship and history. Another party member explores the selection of potions, eyeing those that could prove invaluable in the upcoming challenges.   As you make your selections, Linene offers fair prices for the goods, ensuring your party is well-equipped for the journey ahead. The transaction is completed with a nod of appreciation from both sides, and your party departs the Lionshield Coster, feeling confident and well-supplied for the adventures that await.   The town of Phandalin, though still bearing the scars of recent challenges, now witnesses your party's continued preparations. With newfound gear and a clearer understanding of the path ahead, you set forth to unravel the mysteries of Wave Echo Cave and face whatever challenges may arise in the unfolding tale of your adventure.   Your party decides to visit the Phandalin Miner's Exchange, known as the Guild, for the first time. The building, constructed from sturdy timber, bears the mark of mining tools and trade goods.   As your party enters, the atmosphere shifts from the bustle of the town to a more focused and business-like ambiance. The Guildmaster, Halia Thornton, a poised and discerning woman, stands behind a counter. The walls of the exchange are adorned with maps, mining charts, and notices of available contracts.   Halia Thornton greets your party with a nod of acknowledgment.

"I've heard of your recent success against the goblin and kobold alliance,"

  she begins.

"It's good to see capable adventurers in our midst."

Your party presents the goblin and kobold heads, as well as a collection of goblin ears, trophies of your victory. Halia inspects the spoils, a calculating gleam in her eyes.

"Impressive work,"

  she commends.

"These vermin have troubled Phandalin for too long. You've done the town a service."

In exchange for the trophies, Halia Thornton rewards your party with a sum of gold, recognizing the value of your contribution to the town's safety.   [THE PARTY EARNS 25GP PER EAR THEY HAVE ON THEM] *DEDUCT THE SUM FROM GIN TO REPAIR THE RELATIONS WITH SILDAR*   With that small amount of business concluded, your party decides to take advantage of the Guild's resources. The conversation shifts to the topic of an adventurer's license. You inquire about the process and benefits of obtaining one to operate more freely within Phandalin.   Halia explains the importance of an adventurer's license for those seeking to undertake quests, engage in trade, or explore the region.

"It provides official recognition and certain privileges,"

  she elaborates.

"It ensures that capable individuals like yourselves can contribute to the town's well-being without unnecessary hindrances."

Your party expresses interest in obtaining the license, and Halia Thornton provides the necessary paperwork and instructions.

"Once completed, return the application to me, and we can finalize the licensing process,"

she states.   Armed with the reward for your deeds and the prospect of an adventurer's license, your party leaves Miner's Exchange. The day stretches ahead, filled with the promise of new adventures and challenges. The Guild, with its maps and contracts, becomes a potential source of further quests, and the mysteries surrounding Wave Echo Cave linger in the background, awaiting exploration.   As your party interacted with Halia Thornton at the Phandalin Miner's Exchange, a subtle but strange aura seems to linger about her. It's an indefinable quality that raises a collective sense of curiosity among your party members. Yet, the nature of this peculiarity remains elusive, and the adventurers find themselves unable to pinpoint what feels amiss.   Halia, had remained oddly composed and her calm demeanor fully engaged in your conversation about the goblin and kobold threat, only interrupting to offer insight into the town's dynamics and potential opportunities for adventurers. Despite the lingering uneasiness about the strange aura, the party concluded that this may be something to look into at a later date.   Your party, seasoned in the ways of caution and intuition, briefly entertains the notion that something might be off. However, in the absence of concrete evidence or a clear understanding of the strange aura, the adventurers choose to push these lingering thoughts aside as mere conjecture.   As your party embarks on the next leg of their journey, the strange aura and its potential significance remain a lingering question in the back of your minds. Whether it will become a pivotal aspect of your adventures or simply fade into the background is yet to be seen, but for now, the story continues with the promise of new challenges and discoveries in the unfolding tale of Phandalin.
