Teacher of the Hidden Way
In the several hundred years since the establishment of New Terran Hegemony laws designed to prevent T'ka'an from manifesting their psionic abilities, most of the oppressed non-Humans simply submit to wearing psionic dampeners and allowing their talents to atrophy. Children are not given the training needed to productively awaken their capabilities.
But for some T'ka'an, this was simply not right. It was these that developed an underground movement of sorts that calls itself the Hidden Mind. This informal collection of local T'ka'an meet in secret to develop the psionic skills of themselves and their children. Continuing to outwardly abide by the law, they wear their dampeners and take care not to ever let Humans aware of their psionic practice; they merely wish to preserve their heritage.
Thus, the first teachers - indeed the founders of the Hidden Mind - were almost all immigrants from the T'ka'an Federation, arriving after the borders were reopened and extremely limited trade began between Hegemony and Federation. Since then, however, the numbers of Teachers has expanded with the most talented locals being encouraged to seek out new groups of T'ka'an interested in forming a new circle of the Hidden Mind.

The Teachers
Proper psionic training requires guidance and direction, preferably from one already adept in the arts being developed. Each Hidden Mind group has at leas one such individual; these are called Teachers of the Hidden Mind. In the years following the formation of the Hegemony, the initial oppression and expulsion of T'ka'an meant that, of the few remained, there were not many psionics masters. And with the mandates for psionic dampeners, aggressive enforcement against psionic activity, and closed borders with the T'ka'an Federation for the first fifty years or so, by that time few T'ka'an remained within the Hegemony that had the ability to develop or teach. Thus, the first teachers - indeed the founders of the Hidden Mind - were almost all immigrants from the T'ka'an Federation, arriving after the borders were reopened and extremely limited trade began between Hegemony and Federation.
