Nubeyzh - City of Wonders

The city of Nubeyzh, the capital city of the Firstfall Collective, has seen much since its history began as the site of the first colony settlement chosen by those who made the vast journey from Terra to settle in the Perseus Arm. Since its founding, it has considered itself to not only be the political and administrative core of the Collective, but also the cultural and historical center for humanity in the Arm. Many monuments, structures, and even whole districts have been erected over the years to commemorate key events and people, and to showcase the hardships encountered and victories achieved by ancestors who grew the city into what it is today.

Districts

The modern city is the result of an extensive planning and redevelopment effort started over four hundred years ago that was intended to make Nubeyzh a model of efficiency and advancement. This planning laid out several key "functional" districts at the center of the city, with residential areas expanding outward beyond.

Capital District

At the very heart of the city sits the circular Capital District, with structures that house the government administration for the Collective. At the very heart is the Central Committee Tower where those responsible for directing the Collective meet to discuss and deliver their decisions regarding Collective policy and law. Surrounding this are buildings housing the administrative bureaucracies responsible for industry, commerce, education, health, and military activities within the collective.

Corporate District

The first of three districts which together make up what is called the Inner Ring around the Capital District is the home of headquarters facilities for the corporations own and control the industry and commerce within the Collective.

Education District

The second Inner Ring district is named for its dedication to Education. In addition to it housing the campus of the vast Firstfall University, though, it is also the home of organizations dedicated to Health, Welfare, and Culture. Art museums, concert halls, and advanced medical research facilities can be found here.

Colony District

The final third of the Inner Ring is dedicated to what is essentially a living museum that attempts to recreate and demonstrate the lifestyles, hardships, and innovations that the ancestors experienced in the first hundred years after the colony ships were dismantled and Nubeyzh itself was founded. It is open to the public as an educational experience, but it has also become a sort of Mecca for a dissident group (whose numbers are growing, especially in regions of the collective where corporate governance has proven to be somewhat draconian. This sect desires a return to a simpler life - not one completely devoid of technology; just something that more closely resembles the rustic life of the first colonists.

Residential Districts

The Outer Ring that encircles the three districts of the Inner Ring is divided into nine districts dedicated to residential needs and essential services such as shopping centers where day-to-day items and food can be purchased. Primary schools, recreation areas, and branch libraries also dot the residential districts. Housing itself is a careful intermix of modest to extravagant which is intended to discourage class distinctions among the population.
