Gumpa

"The ferocity of a lion and the strength of an elephant... It can't be that dangerous."   -hunter on Eterra (recently deceased)
Most alien lifeforms found throughout the galaxy have yet to evolve past the microscopic level, and none have been discovered to have sentience, but the gumpa is widely considered to be the most dangerous of any known alien species.
Origin/Ancestry
Eterran
Lifespan
~45 years
Average Height
~12 feet
Average Weight
~600 pounds

Anatomy

The gumpa has six limbs, two short, stubby legs, and four large arms; the arms contain two joints, or elbows. Their feet are three-toed, two in front, one in the back, and their hands have four fingers, three on top, one on bottom. The upper body of the gumpa is extremely large, especially in the pectoral area. The skull is elongated at the back and the jaw suffers a severe underbite.    Fully grown gumpas can reach heights of around 12 feet and weigh around 600 pounds. Gumpas have thick hide and slightly translucent fur, often appearing greyish-brown. The hide also contains chromatophore giving the large creature apt camouflage for hunting.

Perception and Senses

Gumpas show no disadvantage from travelling in the dark, including complicated motions like jumping from tree to tree, which hints towards advanced night vision. In most creatures, this would usually mean a lowered ability to sense color, gumpas however appear to be capable of changing their chromatophore to match their enviroment in all but complete darkness. Their sense of smell is nothing to scoff at either; gumpas can be seen following scents travelling down wind for miles.

"Anyone dumb enough to go out into the wilds deserves to be torn a new one by a gumpa. Taste good though..." -the Rogue

Hunting

Gumpa use advanced tactics in order to hunt their prey. A pack leader, usually the largest in the pack, will act as bait in order to either startle the prey or force a defensive posture. If the prey turns to run, the gumpa pack will be waiting to surround it. Should the prey choose a more defensive posture, the pack leader will let out a war cry and the pack will attack it from behind. These tactics make attacks on humans particularly dangerous because of their tendency to attack quickly, before hunters or explorers can properly grasp the situation.

Reproduction

Gumpa are hermaphroditic. They can mate with any other member of the species, however in practice any mating appears to require pack leader approval. After mating, both members will gestate for eleven months, leaving them vulnerable and mostly incapable of hunting. This may be the reason pack leaders want to approve any mating; in order to ensure the pack can still hunt.
