Dragoons

Composition

Manpower

Their hay day is long over. With numbers dwindling they don't get may recruits, nor do nations push for more recruits.

Weaponry

War darts, atlatl assisted javelins, pilum, and a spear

Tactics

They carry a specialized container that is slung on there back. This container will stay upright making it easy to grab their equipment. When the enemy gets within range, they will begin by throwing all their war darts. They will then move onto atlatl and javelins until they're out. As enemy closes rank(front lines begin to fight) they will throw heaviest and most disruptive throwing spears, the pilum. Once they exhaust the last of their stock, they will sling the container on their back, and take up a spear, and shift into fighting within the front line.

Logistics

Logistical Support

Like with all range combatant, after the battle they will try scour the battlefield for anything they can reuse. They keep their throwing spears on carts, much the same as any ranged combatant.

Recruitment

Not many want to be dragoons anymore, and nations no longer encourage people to join. The most recruits they get are from dragoons who can on longer find work.

History

The ancient, armored spear throwers. Every army has always had them in some form. Their seamless transition from war dart, to javelin, to pilum, to spear, made them the most versatile troop one could ever need. Now in modern times they've become less and less relevant. Bowmen, crossbowmen and mages are better for fighting at range. With infantry in the front, the specialized troops in concert have taken away their primary benefit.
