Signal Interference

Signal interference refers to the intentional disruption, distortion or obstruction of electronic signals or communications in the W.E.I.R. This can include massive amounts of data packages or the consciousness of Transmigrants.

Execution

Stream Riding

This involves siphoning the energy from the data streams being transmitted between light catchers to power a ship's propulsion. Doing so, also tends to greatly scramble the data being transferred into uselessness.   There may be situations where a crew has no choice and special indemnities can be available to mitigate legal consequences. However, there are those who
regularly skim the streams to economically travel short distances and as a shield to restrict the authorities' offensive options.

Components and tools

Relay Sabotage

Bad actors might find a way to hack or compromise the physical infrastructure to redirect, steal or change the information as they are being sorted.

Cosmic Sails

Modified solar sails allow for small ships to hitch free rides onto stellasers carrying information from one sender to the receiver.

Participants

Consciousness Interception

Any transmittee with a cybernetic chip planted near the neck area can beam their consciousness away from the place of immediate danger to a backup server or spare talocin.   Thetíans and epsilonians, in particular, are more intimately tied to signal transference as a legitimate means of travel due to their corporal nature. However, not always without some complications:
Lesser Complications
d20 Complication
1 Part of your DNA sample was too damaged to be cloned perfectly and a significant percentage has been replaced with cybernetics. These high-quality prostheses aren’t obviously synthetic to casual observers. You don’t know the extent of the damage.
2 Your clone has been fitted with a necessary but conspicuous cybernetic prosthetic - an arm, leg, eyes or similar.
3 By accident or malign intent, your cognitive profile has been loaded into someone else’s simulacrum. It might be a clone of a notorious or famous individual, with both enemies and allies of their very own. You might even run into the “original”, somewhere down the line.
4 You have a unique appearance that clearly marks you as vat-grown.
5 Thanks to a series of administrative mishaps, the appearance of your new body is drastically different to that of your old one.
6 An additional, withered limb grows out of your chest shortly after your mind had been loaded, that sometimes moves on its own.
  • STR: 10, DEX: 12
  • 7 There’s a conspicuous barcode printed on your new body that means something specific to at least one powerful organization. You are not yet privy to its meaning.
  • Gain additional hp according to barcode's size: d5
    Size HP Damage from
    Unauthorized Scanning
    Small 11 2d10
    Medium 22 3d10
    Large 44 4d10
    Huge 88 5d10
    Gargantuan 176 6d10
  • 8 In certain light conditions, it’s possible to read a script or inscription printed just under your skin. It is all over your body and contains information contested by powerful organizations or entities:
  • scientific formulae
  • maps
  • schematics
  • diagrams
  • anything else
  • When analyzing/observing the print, the host must:
  • On a failed DC 16 INT save, take 2d10 damage; or half on a success.
  • You are also stunned if you failed by more than 5, until the start of the next turn.
  • 9 You are unusually susceptible to solar radiation, viruses, bacteria or other common environmental phenomenon. You must wear an environmental suit to operate outside certain environments, which include your cockpit and personal quarters. You can use downtime actions to make other rooms safe.
  • Suffer double damage and penalties
  • If in a harmful environment, you must immediately make a DC 30 FORT save every hour or die. On a success, take 10d6 damage and 2d6 CON damage.
  • 10 Genetic material from a non-human source was used in the creation of your body. Whoever revived you won’t reveal the exact details of any long-term effects, and treat you like an experiment.

The new genetic material has caused a cosmetic change that is useful and visible, although able to be hidden.
11 You are stricken with vivid and persistent dreams, visions, and images of your death. You cannot reconcile the existential gulf between the different experiences of yourself.
Once per minute, gain a CHA bonus to the Armour Class for one round.
12 You have been loaded with a digital homunculus of someone else: a basic digital reconstruction of a personality that is more like a piece of software than a person. While not technically sapient, it is very smart, and carries a message or secret with it.

    Homunculus Stats

    STRDEXCONINTWISCHA
    +2 (-4)15 (+2)13 (+1)13 (+1)13 (+1)22 (+6)
    Armour Class: 12
    HP: 55 ( 10d8+10 )
Speed: fly 60 ft., swim 50 ft.
    Skills: Deception +5, Stealth +4
    Proficiency: +2

  • Advantage on saving throws
  • Can move through electronic devices like they are difficult terrain, but take d10 damage if it ends its turn outside the host
    1. If your relation is poor:
      • You must succeed a DC 16 WIS save during long rests or be wake up exhausted
      • Can charm its host for 1 minute on a failed DC 13 WIS save. While charmed, you are incapacitated and have a speed of 0. When you take damage, repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on a success.
    2. Choose one at a time when invading another body as a temporary host:
      • Deals 2d6+2 damage and d4 STR damage until rest
      • Host must make a DC 13 CON save or take d4 CON damage until rest.
13 You’re plagued by the constant understanding or belief that the “real” you is actually dead, and you’re merely a facsimile of a dead person, implanted with someone else’s memories. You can’t establish the difference between the “you” that died and the “you” that exists now.
Gain 5 additional temporary hp for every level for 1 hour.
14 You become woven through with a subdermal data-lattice that stores very dangerous and potentially unwanted information sought after by powerful entities.
  • Advantage on knowledge checks and cannot be less than 10
  • 15 The process went awry and you have been revived as a blank slate. In desperation, the technicians dumped a stock personality construct into your body. Choose a new background and triggers.
16 The body has a dramatically reduced life expectancy.
  • Do not gain bonuses to your mental ability
  • Cannot progress past level 8
  • 17 You now have persistent and intrusive mental contact with an entity or entities; human or otherwise.
  • On a failed DC 20 INT save, you are stunned for d4 rounds.
  • 18 You keep having searing headaches during which you see brief flashes of what may be a future and that may or may not come to pass.
During an episode, which can last for 1d4 hours, acts that require concentration have a d% 20% chance at failing; which involves:
  • -4 penalty on Listen, Spot and any checks requiring more than 1 round to complete.
  • -2 penalty to attack and AC.
  • 19 Knowingly or unknowingly, you have been implanted with a mental trigger that places you in a receptive state when heard or activated, causing you to either follow a pre-programmed course of action or to follow instructions given by the person who activated you.

The GM determines a simple command (e.g. kill, lie) and who gave it.
    For the effect's duration:
  • -2 penalty to STR and DEX
  • cannot charge or run
  • Might be overcome with a DC 15 or 20 CON save .
  • 20 You come back with total amnesia regarding the time before your death, meaning you must be retrained and prepared from scratch. You lose all previous triggers and can assign new ones up to your current level. Additionally, you may rewrite some incidental facts of your backstory.
  • You are dazed for 1 round
    1. Proficiencies are retained
    2. All skill ranks are reassigned as you begin to learn again
    3. Feats and classes are lost
    4. Old levels can be replaced with new ones
  • Successful DC 15 Will saves negate all these affects, but deal 1d6 damage per 2 levels as the brain misfires.
