Paznic Neighborhoods
The Warren
This segment of town is devoted to the subterranean races: Dwarves, harengon, and gnomes. Each contributes to this neighborhood in their own way. The dwarves, famous for their skill at crafts, have designed and implemented a vast, interconnected labyrinth where families have some measure of privacy while not sacrificing the communal spaces so necessary for the harengon to get along. The gnomes have implemented a vast communications network consisting of ensorcelled brass tubes running the length and breadth of the warren. The harengon of Paznic's Rest, with the notable exception of Osier, are a wildly sociable bunch, and at all times of day there are teas being brewed and cakes being baked as the common areas are filled with bustling furry bodies. The majority of the harengon population in town is unemployed, as they are the family members and offspring of the employed. Thus, the busy themselves with the day to day tasks necessary to run their neighborhood. Cleaning, cooking, washing, all are communal tasks, and with the famous hospitality of the harengon there are none who are unwelcome to participate. The warren exists at the base of the hill, directly where the mine meets the ground. The warren has no set structure, and as such moves both up and down as it delves into the hill. The Eyrie, or Great Brow
As the subterranean races have their Warren, so the aarakocra have the Eyrie. The Eyrie is a long expanse of cliff dwellings built into the rock, akin to a neighborhood rather than a communal home. Each home is denoted by an ornate wooden door. The patterns upon them, carved in or woven with vines, indicates the ownership like a family crest. Aarakocra are solitary creatures, and once they reach maturity they quickly seek out their own living quarters. Their homes are dug into the rock face of the cliff, but are notable for having many openings for air to flow through, allowing a breeze in nearly any conditions. Aarakocra have no fear of the rain, and thus the interior of their homes are composed of much stone and wood that resists water damage. In addition to being solitary, the Aarakocra of Paznic's Rest are known to be rather spartan. A single room with all of the necessaries is usually all they require, though these rooms tend to expand with time. The trees which naturally come to the edge of the cliff above Paznic's Rest have been removed so as to allow the freer movement of air throughout the Eyrie. The Town of Paznic's Rest
Paznic's Rest proper lies at the base of the hill. Where the warren digs into the earth, the town spreads out from it. At the center of town is the Weeping River, so-called due to the falls which feed the river being located within the head of the ancient Guardian. Here along the river are built the functional structures of the town: The mill, the tannery, the inn, the stables; anything which needs water to function.Remove these ads.
