The Needless
The Bloodless Soldiers
Utility
The Discovery of the Needless is shrouded in mystery, as their creator was famously secretive and private about his work, even until his death. Their use, however, is known by many a shell shocked veteran. As soon as the Needless were put in to the open market, they began to appear on the battlefield. Soldiers that require no rations, can take multiple bullets, and you can have as many as your coffers permit. Quickly wars began to be waged, even some by small nations that could have never before conceived of conquering other territory. If you could afford enough Needless, you could theoretically win any war, regardless of manpower.
Manufacturing
The manufacturing process is unknown. However, the way one would obtain a needless, was public knowledge. You send in a mail order, requesting one (or more) of the following models. Each Needless has a 1 inch coloured square on the back of its neck, with text indicating the model name.
- Sharp Green
- Next Red
- Slick Blue
- Solid Red
- Ultra Yellow
- Dashing Blue
- Striker Red
- Phasing Purple
- Sleek Silver
- Blasting Black
- Roving Orange
- Marching Green
Access & Availability
As of the 1736 Fair and Honest Diplomacy Act, use of the Needless was outlawed. After the 4 year Bloodless Campaign, most remaining cells using the Needless were neutralized. The arrest and execution of Dr. Viktor Kasparov laid the secret of their creation to rest. As of now, they are rather uncommon to come across. Since they can not receive new orders once they are created, the few that remain act out their original tasks, such as moving boxes, killing dangerous wild game, etc. There are incidents of certain models killing people however, due to their lack of thought, or simply because their original order was to kill on sight. These reports are very uncommon however.
Complexity
The creation of the Needless is still unknown to the general public. They seem to be mostly biological, and just slightly magical. They lack a mind, blood, and organs. Have no need to eat, or sleep, and some can keep following their task while missing limbs, eyes, etc. They don't rot or decay, however they do generally look like normal, albeit bald and very pale, humans.
Discovery
The Needless were invented by Dr. Viktor Kasparov and his Biological Development Division, in the year 1715. The organization was funded out of his pocket, and seemed to be a passion project for him in his retirement.
