Solaria Class Cruiser
The Kingdom of Solaria was first and foremost a nomadic, mercantilist power. Spending half the year in underground cities, they expected a certain comfort in their ship designs. Following the fall of the Second Mykentian Republic, the Kingdom saw the need for a long range cruiser to act as an escort to their trade caravans. The sleek, streamlined cruiser they designed had a speed far in excess of what any other power could attain, and the range to travel months without resupply.
Following the Tychos Campaign, the still growing Terran Imperium found itself in need of a long range patrol cruiser. Being familiar with the Solarian cruiser, they purchased the design in exchange for a number of colony worlds bordering Solarian space.
Used almost exclusively for patrol of the outer frontiers of the Imperium, the Solaria class would see little action until the Terran Civil War, when they formed the backbone of the new Remian Republic’s fleet. The Imperium would discover, much to its dismay, that the Solaria class was exceptionally good at slash and run attacks, able to easily outmaneuver and outrun anything in the Imperial fleet. The Imperial Admiralty would consider the Solaria class so dangerous that they listed it alongside the Monsos assault carriers as major security threats.
The Solaria class would remain in service through the First Enmalex War, though none were constructed following the Second Antoskan War when they were outclassed by the new fast battleships.
