Rector
The enigmatic being known as the Rector would first appear in early 942 MY with a widely replayed broadcast in which they promoted the virtues of diverse cultures and beliefs, spawning what would become known as the Domian movement. Numerous attempts would be made to ascertain the identity of the Rector, but all would prove futile. They would go to great lengths to protect their anonymity, with broadcasts relayed through multiple systems. Once the rapidly growing Domian movement was declared illegal by the Hilt Katatoman in late 942, messages were smuggled across the galaxy on data crystals and broadcast on individual worlds where jamming was ineffective. The quasi-religious movement would continue to grow, sparking more extreme crackdowns that ultimately resulted in civil war. The Rector would vanish as mysteriously as they appeared in 947, only appearing on one other occasion during the First Enmalex War in 962 to speak in defense of Hilt Mark Thomason.
Background
In spite of the vast diversity of the population, the majority of government bureaucrats and elected officials remained human, a relic of the Terran Imperium’s Laws on Terran Supremacy. Under the Charters of the restored Third Republic, and the reformed Fourth Republic, representation in the Assembly of the People was by sector. Humans were among the most experienced in government, and often the best positioned to gain elected office following the unification of the Republic. Additionally, under the terms of the Treaty of Unification all governments and militaries were merged into the Republic and reorganized. This would result in a human dominated Mykentian government which many species, especially the Mykentians themselves began to feel apprehensive about. The system also resulted in many minor species being totally disenfranchised from government positions, especially if they had never been a galactic power.Oft-quoted statements of the Rector
All righteous deeds stem from honest thought. Creation and destruction are forever entwined. One cannot exist without the other. You cannot create without destruction, and you cannot destroy without creation. Since when does the military, the supreme need for security, not make policy? You fear me because I show mankind a terrifying image: that they are not the chosen people, destined by fate to rule the universe, and they cannot be until they are truly aware of their faults.
Nothing is actually known about the Rector, including age, species, gender, or location.
