Kandix Secundus

Where Kandix Prime is a tropical paradise world, the far lesser known Kandix Secundus is a tortured world which has regions that bear a striking resemblence to the human concepts of hell.  Part of the binary Kandix star system, Kandix B is a dim red dwarf, orbiting roughly 12.4 AU from Kandix A and possesses only one tidally locked planet. 
  Temperatures on the day side often reach as high as 130° C (266° F), while on the night side they drop as low as -95° C (-139° F).  The planet has an eccentric orbit, causing temperature variations as well as extreme gravitational stresses on the crust.  This has resulted in the approximately 1.2 million square kilometer lava sea on the dark side of the planet, possibly caused by an asteroid impact in the ancient past.  The existence of this sea helps to warm the dark side of the world and prevent the climate from being as extreme as it could potentially be.  Nevertheless, wind speeds average 56 km/hr (35 mph) across the majority of the habitable zone, with the frequent storms reaching speeds as high as 290 km/hr (180 mph).  The constant stressing on the crust caused by the eccentric orbit also produce nearly continuous earthquakes, though rarely exceeding a rating of 3 on the Richter scale.
  A broad habitable zone exists between the glacial melt zone and the sun side desert (frequently called the "scorch zone") featuring a number of large islands and archipelagos.  Atmosphere is maintained by the rapidly spinning planetary core producing an unusually strong magnetic field. 

Products

Kandix Secundus is the primary supplier of building material and food to Kandix Prime, allowing that world to reach its status without the presence of industry.  Crops are either grown behind windbreaks, or are genetically modified to survive the strong winds. 

Population

Visitors to Kandix Prime have noted that there seem to be no elderly, disabled, or unattractive people among the slave population.  All those who do not fit the appearance desired by the pleasure world are sent to Kandix Secundus where they continue their servitude out of sight.  Most slaves of Kandix Prime actually look forward to this, as the automation of much of the labor on Secundus means they are far more likely to be overseeing equipment, rather than having to do manual labor.  The rules regarding behavior on Secundus are also far less strict and less severely punished, as there are no outside visitors.
