Kandix Prime

Kandix Prime is part of the binary Kandix System, and is the second of four planets from Kandix A.  As a subtropical paradise world with little temperature variation across its surface, Kandix Prime is a highly desirable world for habitation.  However, it lacks heavy metals in the crust, and it's somewhat isolated location off the primary trade routes limited its early development.  This has led to the development of an unusual slave economy and its growth as a pleasure world.

First Civilization

Kandix Prime was once home to an indigenous civilization which is now extinct.  Mykentian archaeologists who studied the world during the First Republic concluded that the civilization was extremely primitive and superstitious, fearing some force of darkness.  This led them to begin ritually sacrificing each other in an attempt to stave off this force, culminating in a mass sacrifice of millions in a short period at a mountaintop altar.  Excavations found the plateau on one side of the mountain was a valley that had been largely filled in by the pile of corpses, and the iron deposits on the mountain were permanent blood stains from this final act of desperation.
Later charting of nearby stars showed that there was an astronomical basis for this civilization's fears.  At the time of the extincton, the supergiant star KN-75396 was approximately 1.5 light years from the world.  Simulations showed that during the extinction, a once in ten million year astronomical alignment occured where both Kandix B and KN-75396 lay behind Kandix A.  The moon Drena eclipsed Kandix A, while Krendine fell into lunar eclipse.  The disappearance of the three brightest stars, as well as both moons virtually simultaneously triggered the cataclysmic sacrifice.
The First Mykentian Republic would construct a pyramid over the stone altar inscribed with the story of what they had found in a variety of languages.  They would also place a beacon informing passing ships that it was a tomb world and could not be settled.

Human Settlement

Kandix would be settled by House Carruthers in 769 MY, with the intention of developing it as a resort world.  By this time the beacon had long ceased functioning and the inscription on the pyramid was badly decayed.  A numer of small settlements were established as free communes without any restrictions on narcotics or sexuality.  This led to the prompt breakdown of order and any attempts at passing laws were quickly abandoned as useless.  House Carruthers dispatched ground forces to try and regain control of the colony, an effort that would ultimately prove futile as the troops became addicted to the narcotics freely supplied to them by the population.  This would lead to House Carruthers abandoning the colony to its fate.   Kandix Revolution
As order collapsed, a number of women in Pyramidium, the settlement at the base of the mountain, banded together to fight back against the frequent occurences of rape in the town.  During this movement, a Solarian trader arrived with an artifact that had been discovered in an ancient, abandoned ship.  This would later be discovered to be one of the Omnos Restraint Devices.  In rifle form, it would fire a dart composed of nanites that would form into a collar around the target's neck.  It would then inject a variety of drugs to sedate and pacify the victim.  The weapon would then be automatically reloaded by an integrated energy-matter converter, giving it virtually unlimited ammunition.  The accompanying bracelet allowed the wearer to control those who were captured.
The women immediately purchased the weapon, turning it first on the worst offenders of Pyramidium.  They then turned to the rest of the men, and when a number of women protested, they too were subdued.  As a new bracelet was generated for each person who used the weapon, it allowed each of them to control a portion of the population.  Renaming the settlement Kandix City, they would march off to the next settlement with their enthralled followers, forcibly subduing the population.
By 793 they had successfully established order over the rest of the world, and formed what would become known as the Kandix Matriarchy.
  Kandix Matriarchy
Under the Matriarchy, Kandix Prime was ruled exclusively by the female descendants of the original revolutionaries.  Men would hold no legal rights whatsoever, even if born to a Matriach.  Technically all citizens were born free, being given the choice to enter the Matriarchy upon entering puberty.  However, those who refused were immediately exiled to the newly colonized world of Kandix Secundus
The Empress quickly began developing Kandix Prime as a resort world where anything was possible.  The first gladiatorial match was held in 794 in Kandix City, and was held on a monthly basis from that point onwards.  In 795, the killing of a slave was decriminalized as long as it was done with the consent of the owning Matriarch, usually requiring a payment to be made.  The absence of laws and the strict code of silence required by the Matriarchy allowed the most depraved among the population of the Imperium a place to carry out their desires, if they could afford to.  The Matriarchy quickly amassed a vast fortune that they used to entice people to join them by offering "contracts" in which their family was paid for their "service."  This allowed the Matriarchy to claim it was not utilizing a slave economy, but legal, contractual servitude.
  Imperial Occupation
In 843, Emperor Gerard V grew tired of the reports of activities on Kandix Prime, and dispatched an imperial force to occupy the world and enforce imperial laws.  This occupation would prove to be as successful and short lived as the earlier attempt by House Carruthers.  By 845 the emperor realized it was pointless, as nearly half the garrison was now in the service of the Matriarchy and the governor himself was under investigation for corruption.  He would sign an imperial decree declaring that Kandix Prime was sovereign, but under the protection of the Imperium.  This status would later be maintained by the Kingdom of Solaria following the Second Division of the Imperium.
  The Grand Revolution
By 900, the Matriarchy had begun to liberalize to a limited extent, allowing the male heirs of the Matriarchs to maintain freedom and become Masters of Kandix.  Prince Erdan would be the only child of Empress Gloriandra to show any promise and avoid consignment as a slave or exile to Kandix Secundus.  The remaining Matriarchy was determined to avoid his ascent, as they feared it would lead to an end of female domination of the world.  Their fears seemed justified when Erdan began speaking of "equality for all Kandix," hinting at a potential end to slavery.
The sudden death of Empress Gloriandra in 919 saw Erdan seize the throne before the Matriarchy could act.  He immediately announced full equality on Kandix Prime, by collaring the Masters and Matriarchs as his own property.  As an additional reform, he announced the full reversal of the social order.  Those who had been the lowest and most abused would now be the Masters and Mistresses of Kandix, and the former rulers would take their place.
  Republic Autonomy
With the reunification of the Mykentian Republic, the rights of Kandix Prime were quietly renegotiated.  While considered an Associate Member of the Republic, Kandix was not bound by the laws passed by the Assembly, allowing its society to remain unchanged.
  Enmalex Occupation
Grand Prince Erdan would flee Kandix Prime in advance of the Enmalex occupation, taking with him several key Masters as well as the majority of the contents of the Treasure Vault.  As the Grand Prince had taken the control bracelets with him, the Orlithan droids were unable to determine the exact nature or functioning of the collars as the Omnos had shielded them against known methods of scanning.  Due to this, the world continued functioning precisely as the Grand Prince had ordered, maintaining all buildings and keeping the world clean.  The Orlithan did remove all forms of technology, including shuttles, household computer terminals, weapons, and technological household items.
Kandix Prime would immediately rebound after being liberated, resuming service as soon as travel was permitted.

Kandix City

As the capital city of Kandix Prime, Kandix City is home to the Palace of the Grand Prince and its adjacent pleasure gardens.  The Golden Road extends two kilometers from the entrance of the palace, so named because it is paved in gold plated blocks.  Lining the Golden Road are shops offering a variety of goods and services, ranging from the childishly amusing to the terrifyingly depraved.  Kandix City also hosts a fifty thousand seat Colliseum, used for gladiatorial games and other events.  Most Masters and Mistresses of Kandix have their own palace complexes within the city, offering a variety of on site entertainments.

Economy

While geared towards pleasure, the innocuously named Kandix Travel Bureau offers a number of travel packages for those with an interest in visiting the world.
  Nature
While not something that immediately comes to mind when speaking of Kandix Prime, nature tourism is one of the areas the Matriarchy and the Grand Prince have invested heavily in.  A naturally spectacular world dotted with large archipelagoes, and with little need for industry or farming thanks to Kandix Secundus, most of the world is left in its natural state.  Importing rare or endangered plants and animals has allowed Kandix Prime to establish vast nature preserves which feature flora and fauna nearly impossible to see anywhere else.  One source of pride on Kandix Prime is that the world is host to the largest surviving population of undomesticated dresit in the galaxy.  Various parks and gardens offer plants which cannot be seen elsewhere, including many which are extremely toxic or dangerous.  Guided tours or even camping is offered in many of the preserves.
  Hunting
A number of islands have been set aside expressly for hunting that are stocked with a variety of often dangerous animals.  It is also possible, if one can afford it, to have the area stocked with rare or endangered animals that it is illegal to hunt elsewhere.  Though unconfirmed, rumors persist that it is also possible to hunt sentient beings in some of these locations.
  Resorts
Kandix Prime hosts hundreds of resorts in a variety of themes, many of which are in designated "family friendly" areas.
  Private Estates
Rentable properties range from small retreat cottages to vast palatial estates staffed by slaves.
  Gambling
Gambling of all forms is legal on Kandix Prime, with casinos being extremely popular.  A number of back room gambling dens also exist where it has been reported that the stakes are considerably higher.  During the Terran Imperium, many colony worlds were said to have been won and lost in such back room games.
  Fighting
Numerous arenas exist across Kandix Prime, allowing those with such desires to pit themselves in combat against the gladiators of Kandix.  While most fights are not lethal, such fights can be had for the right price and with the signing of a waiver of liability.  The main gladiatorial combat takes place in the Colliseum at the first of the month, where the gladiators fight to the death, while other, non lethal entertainments are offered daily.
  Sex Tourism
It has often been said that if your pockets are deep enough, you can have anything you want on Kandix Prime.  Numerous brothels dot Kandix City, and various locations are home to the infamous Kandix Orgy Pits.  Many of these are by invitation only, while others only require payment of an admission fee and a waiver of liability for any injuries that may occur.

Service

Regardless of the reason for visiting or the package selected, Kandix Prime prides itself on providing the best possible service.  It has been noted by many visitors that the staff almost seems to anticipate needs, and repeat visitors often find things arranged precisely how they like in advance.  It is believed that Kandix Prime maintains a database of all their clients, detailing their likes and dislikes, food preferances, forms of address, and the type of staff and services they find appealing.  Everything possible is done to make every visitor's stay as comfortable as can be arranged.

Known Visitors

While Kandix Prime does not share who has, and has not visited their world, a number of people are known to have visited.
  Claudius II
Terran Emperor Claudius II was known to have visited at least three times, both before becoming emperor and after taking the throne.  It is believed that Kandix provided the concubines for his harem aboard Imperious.
  Tiberius Carruthers
Known to have visited numerous times, it is believed Tiberius Carruthers had a second family on Kandix Prime with Princess Sybelle.  Many have noted a resemblence between Carruthers and Grand Prince Erdan and believe he may be a direct descendent.
  Mark Thomason
Mark Thomason is known to have taken several vacations on the world prior to becoming Hilt.  He would abruptly stop visiting in 910, leaving some to wonder if there was a personal reason for his visits which no longer existed.
  Xavier Thomason
Xavier is reported to have visited Kandix Prime in 919, interestingly at the same time as the Grand Revolution.
