Shapeshifter
Shapeshifters, or shifters, are a species who can transform into different creatures at will. They can easily change their facial features to mimic other people, although it takes more effort to alter the rest of their body. Most shapeshifters are capable of changing into one or two creatures, but more skilled ones can reach from five to ten.
The difficulty of shapeshifting is in understanding the creatures you plan to turn into. While shapeshifters are physically capable of altering their bodies, they also have to learn how the animals work in order to shift properly.

Basic Information
Anatomy
A shapeshifter’s basic form is humanoid, with two arms and two legs, but gray and almost featureless. They have no hair or markings, and their eyes are . Over time they build an image of themselves that is usually similar in appearance to an elf, human, or demon.
Growth Rate & Stages
When born, changeling children are in their default state, gray and humanoid. After around three to six months, they begin surface-level changes: skin color, eye color, hair growth, etc. By one year, they have usually settled on a base form. They have the capacity to shift into different forms after four or five years, but complex shifting has to be taught. Most changelings do not shift into non-humanoid creatures until they are ten to fifteen years old.
Changelings typically live from 90 to 140 years and are considered mature when they are capable of turning into at least three forms. The oldest recorded shapeshifter died at 162 years old.

Additional Information
Facial characteristics
One of the biggest hints that gives away a shapeshifter in another form is their eyes: When unfocused or under stress, a shapeshifter’s eyes will slip back to their natural color. This also happens when they die, although the rest of them will stay in the same form.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Shapeshifters’ senses change to match whatever creature they have morphed into. Their default forms, which they rarely use, have good touch and eyesight but very little hearing, smell, or taste.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Shapeshifters are usually named after simple words or concepts in their own language. Some choose to take the names of creatures they enjoy shifting into, or use multiple names based on words they like.
Average Technological Level
Shapeshifters have contributed to most research relating to biology and the way bodies work, and are generally willing to share their knowledge with other species. They often take jobs as doctors, warriors, or spies.
Lifespan
90 - 110 years
Average Height
4.5 to 6 feet in their default form
