Enhanced Flame
Enhanced flame, sometimes called god-touched, is a byproduct of fire elementals and burns for much longer than normal fire. It has a multitude of uses, and is highly valued by a wide range of people—from temple-keepers to military officers to arsonists and assassins.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Enhanced flame burns much brighter than normal fire, and usually comes in saturated oranges and reds. With enough enhanced flame in one place, it sometimes turns white-hot and can melt the ground around it.
Origin & Source
While initially only created by fire elementals, some mages have discovered ways to recreate the flame to a lesser effect. Matchboxes are sold with chemicals that ignite much stronger flames than are normal. Currently, they are experimenting with ways to contain the fire but keep it long-lasting.
Life & Expiration
A single matchstick worth of enhanced flame burns for about two hours when placed on flammable surfaces.
History & Usage
Cultural Significance and Usage
God-touched flame is often used in rituals related to the Pantheon. It’s used in torches and braziers inside the temples, some of which also have central fires that they never let go out. They regard it as a gift from the gods, to be respected and used carefully.
Environmental Impact
When let loose without protection, this fire can wreak havoc on the surrounding area and burn large portions of ground, especially forests and wild grasses. Think wildfires but much more difficult to get under control.
Distribution
Storage
A small amount of flame can be stored in an enchanted bottle, charmed with protection against the heat. It burns indefinitely in the enclosed space. Any sizable amount requires a heavy-duty tanks or larger enchanted container, and is often controlled by a government or military force.
Law & Regulation
It is illegal in most countries to carry any amount of enhanced flame that does not fit in a standard bottle (about 4 oz), unless you have special permissions. For example, an exception is made for use in places of worship, but precautions must be taken and fire size is still limited to a certain radius. Military use is regulated, but they store flame in much larger quantities.
