Kar Nodge Fleet

Step. Thump. Step. Thump. Step. Thump. The rapid pace of a peg-legged man on Seabass Pier silenced conversations among the fishermen sitting about working on nets and things. No one ever hurried to a fishing boat in the evenings unless the weather was foul. The skies were clear. The peg-legged man went past three boats before stepping aboard the fourth.   "Hyrild!" he called out, pulling aside the empty sailcloth over the entrance to a small cabin. His brother, a short but burly fellow with an ale-belly that threatened to hide his belt buckle, looked up from a cot where he was sprawled against the wall while sipping from a rum bottle.   Hyrild cleared his throat before blinking at him. "What's got you more twisted than Ruby's unmentionables?"   The peg-legged man blinked, then shook off his brother's words and blurted, "Dread Pirate Dubloon recruited all of Whiskeyjacks!"   "What?!" His brother gasped, then coughed as some of his rum went down the wrong hole. "Dyrol, please tell me you're joking!"   "Ain't no joke. The Kar Nodge are here and recruiting."   Hyrild corked his bottle, shoved it in a net beside the cot, and stood. "Get the poles ready. Soon's the tide rolls in, we're headed upriver 'til they leave."   "We're gonna miss the red fish run." Dyrol pointed out.   His brother snorted. "Better than being dragged off to be a pirate!"
The Kar Nodge Fleet is the most feared and infamous pirate fleet on the Basquay Sea. They are known to be ruthless, cunning, and suspiciously well informed.   No one knows for sure, but now and again, some old sailor will whisper tales about the past. These sailors claim that the Kar Nodge Fleet is the oldest known enterprise upon the Basquay Sea.
Whispered Over Rum
It is whispered that for centuries, explorers into the region were plagued by "wild ships", and early settlements traded with scavengers.   As the region grew with more settlements, these wild ships and scavengers became known as pirates. Others took up the plundering flag, challenging the wild ones.   No one knows for sure, but now and again, some old sailor will speak of a time when the wild ships warred with each other until one bested them all and made them swear to him.   This conquering pirate captain is said to have become the very first Dread Pirate, who named his wild ship fleet Kar Nodge.
Pirates
The Kar Nodge Fleet currently consists of thirteen ships under the command of Dread Pirate Dubloon, easily recognizable by his black tri-corn hat and a blood red trimmed black coat adorned with gold buttons.

Other than his flagship, which he captains himself, the other ships are each under the command of a Pirate Captain sworn to Dubloon under a Kar Nodge Contract.

The crews of these ships have also signed contracts they call the Dreaded Dotted Line, when they dare to speak of them.

Ahhh good old press gangs. Wouldn't be pirates without some of that now would it. Lovely little piece, definitely had me ready to shove out and up river with that aloud, I'd not have been asking questions, we'd be halfway up river by the time that conversation was finished.
