Feyn-Crossed Elves

Elves of Feyn

The elven communities of Feyn who live near an anchor have developed their own ways to exist with the consequences brought by the anchor. Moving away is not an option, as the realm of Feyn is smaller than the world of Pangorio, so territories are not only claimed but defended. Populations do move, of course, but this always comes with a cost that only the desperate are willing to pay.   Like all communities, the Feyn-Crossed Elves maintain a strong defense that includes natural borders, often crafted by magic. Things like spike-stone walls, deep chasms, and borders lined with aggressive trees are just a couple of examples. Every elf rotates a term of service in their community militia. None can refuse to serve, even those with crippling injuries. Quartermasters, aids, smiths, and couriers are much-needed assisting positions that a militia needs. Even mages and the nobility cannot refuse to serve.

Anchors In Their Midst

Feyn-crossed elves have all developed a tradition called Twixtfolk Parley. The details vary for each settlement, but they all perform the same function of meeting newcomers crossing over and how they should greet others when they cross over into Pangorio. If the anchor is found to connect to an enriching resource, the Parley provides rules on how to harvest, defend, or even conquer the locals for it. Within their militia, there are Twixt Scouts who constantly test the reach of the anchor. Pangorio's magical ways are often incorporated into industries within the anchor settlements, especially if a profit or power advantage can be had.

Secrets

Not all Twixtfolk are happily received. Most anchor settlements will kill them unless they can prove to be valuable. This had led to some hidden enclaves where escaped Twixfolk gather, learn the ways within Feyn, and then try to escape back into Pangorio. A rare few have decided to stay, hidden, secretive, and with their own personal agendas.
Feyn Elf
Feyn. A realm away from the world of Pangorio yet anchored to it. There are thirteen of these anchor points that shift. When one vanishes, another returns to take its place in a new random location. These anchors are unseen and unfelt, with magic only able to detect them within close proximity. To walk through them is to step from one world into the other. These anchors are often discovered when people or creatures suddenly go missing or when strangers arrive.   Existences upon Feyn and Pangorio are fundamentally different. Those born upon Feyn are born without lifespans and without souls. They exist until something, or someone, ends their lives. On Pangorio, all are born with souls and lifespans. Even the very long-lived have a time limit... if they manage to live long enough to reach it.

An interesting people. I like the idea that no one is exempt from military service. Does this include both men and women?
