Effervescence
Smakus narrowed his eyes at the mast rising high at the edge of the horizon. The streamer fluttering at the top was red with a wide trim of gold, the mark of the Red Sparks. That was not what they called themselves, but he could not be bothered to say, or even think about, their tongue-tripping dung of a company name. "To the lines! Raise more sail!" Captain Antharend bellowed. "You got two shakes to be catching more wind!" Letting out a snort, Smakus moved to the nearest long rope and took his place in line even as the younger, spry hooved Bremaur up in the rigging started loosening sails. Working a sail line was typically beneath him, but he was third mate, the Captain had called for all hands, and the First Mate had this shift. Every bremaur in his line fixed their grip on the rope and waited. Then, the First Mate bellowed, "Heave!" Smakus pulled hard in time with the other bremaur. Together they replied, "Ho!" Their sail rose up a full quarter, and the riggers above settled its lines. The Wavekicker lurched as the wind caught the sail, giving the ship more speed. Their rope was secured. He returned to watching the mast ahead. The Red Sparks always traveled with solid sailors trained to the blade. Things could get lively. Slipping a hand into his pouch, he dug out a spinach chew and shoved it into his mouth. Soon enough, its effevenscent potency would surge through him and power him through their boarding of the Red Sparks ship.Effervescence is a condition that invigorates Bremaur when they consume something called a spinach chew. This chew is a tightly rolled chunk of minced spinach and honey rolled over sea salt. Once chewed and swallowed, this chew provides a Bremaur with a surge of energy. This works for them as they are herbivores with an affinity for dark greens. When they think they will be engaging in strenuous work, especially combat, a bremaur will consume a chew. Other kin of Pangorio are not affected by the spinach chews. Most tend to dismiss its potency for a bremaur as these chews are not magical. The bremaur find this very amusing as they are immune to magic, good and bad, so something useful to them can not have magic. What the spinach chews do have is a very high amount of dark green nutrients that they can rapidly digest. Added with the honey, another fast-to-digest food, and a bremaur can perform at their peak efficiency. As a side effect, they tend to be near giddy with anticipation for whatever it is they intend to do. The sea salt is rumored to hold, harden, and preserve the chew, though most bremaur claim it's that perfect touch of salty to go with the sweetness of the honey.

Oh I like this. Definitely a bit silly but written well to keep that silly imagery (I can't help but imagine Popeye) to a minimum. Excellent work, certainly tucking this one in the collection, for it brought a big silly grin to my face to read.
yes... I maaaay have had Popeye in mind... lol
