Bast

Within the dunes, the nation of Bast has long been deserted by the people despite being the originally intended capital of the world. However, prior to the extreme changes in weather condition, it rendered the land unlivable.   The nation stretches from the badlands that outlines the canyonland, and was originally built on the surface before being swallowed by the dunes.   This was a monumental event that led the people to divide into the Inlanders (those who live within the confines of the earth) and the Outlanders (those who still live on the surface).   The most significant feature of Bast is that it holds the Library, a key agency that still houses original paperback books (a tradition long lost - The Outlanders rely heavily on knowledge by word of mouth, while the Inlanders heavily adopted digital technology as a form of communication of knowledge).
