Rot Vulture
Whenever a zombie epidemic comes through, so does the rot vultures. Completely bald from chest to head, their pitch-black eyes are like coals on its unnatural head. The head is usually only bone, but in younger specimens the flesh is only started decaying away. Their jet-black beak is tailored to saw through even the thickest of monster hides. Sometimes skeletal, sometimes missing massive chunks of flesh from its chest, there's no heart present, only its esophagus and stomach. Their wings are dark gray to solid black, on the underside of the wings, the tertiaries are the only white feathers this animal has. Talons are usually covered in blood and excrement. The torn tails are indication of greedy vulture trying to eat a living undead monster.
They survive by eating the undead monsters of Pandyria, some of them are already dead, some still roaming, the rot vulture isn't picky. Their main diet consists of undead monsters, but if they spot dead, rotting monster corpse, they won't hesitate feasting on it. Many monster looters have met their end from fighting with the vultures. It's still unknown how rot vultures can eat through rotting monster flesh, and many scholars and zoologists have asked the Chronicles to move rot vultures from fauna category to monster category, but these cries have gone to deaf ears.
Their mating ceremonies are even stranger, when two unpaired vultures meet each other, the male tries to win the female over by covering itself with gore and entrails. This can last up to an hour. If the female fancies the male, they put entrails around on each others necks, which has a striking resemblance to necklaces. The pair then fly off together, finding suitable nesting area, and make it from twigs, moss, fuzz and leaves (and surprisingly the nest doesn't include offal). Female lays 3 - 4 eggs, having black shells and green whites and yolks. The brooding period lasts up to two months, in which the female stays in the nest, meanwhile the male goes searching for carrion for itself and for its partner. Rot vulture are monogamous, and they pair for life. They nest every other summer and they may use their old nests.
