Threads Pull Tighter
General Summary
A strange note appeared on the boards across Pandora mentioning Milo's past and asking him to come home. Unsure what this was about, Milo gathered his fellow masters of Tetrodora of which Azim, Asano, and Roger answered the call. With his companions gathered, Milo's memory of home was fuzzy but he did know one thing; home was not on Pandora. With that, Azim used a plane shift spell to bring them to the region of Thay in Faerûn. Having safely arrived, Milo was able to use his boots of teleportation to bring them as close to a place called home as possible. The group appeared in front of a ragged, beaten down shack near a field. The group cautiously investigated fearing a trap and when they entered the shack, Roger was pushed up against a wall by a screaming gnoll. Milo quickly raised a knife to the gnoll's throat cautioning his next move but when the gnoll recognized Milo, his countenance shifted. With the tension broken, the gnoll introduced himself as Skellig. He appeared to be old, partially blind, and emaciated from hunger and spoke of the pack and those who had taken him and Milo. He asked that Milo go to seek out answers and take revenge on the red wizards who had a lab nearby in the plateau. Milo was skeptical, but vowed to do what he was asked and offered Skellig a place to call a new home when he was done before parting ways. Asano noticing that the gnoll was starving offered him a few sandwiches before departing with Milo.
With a direction to head in and a thread of mystery to unravel, Milo and his group headed off to find this lab of red wizards. Along the way, the group was attacked by a couple of flying bird creatures with bows. Azim was almost struck down but once the group cleared the gap in between them and their enemies, they were able make easy work of the two flying creatures. After a few more hours of travel, the group came upon the entrance to the lab.
Ever watchful and cautious, the group proceeded slowly through the lab coming up against an iron golem archer. The party quickly destroyed it but not before it struck a peculiar bell at it's waist creating a silence effect. Thinking they could use it to their advantage in stealth, the group picked it up failing to identify it. A few short moments later however, it unleashed a resounding and thundrous shout spell deafening some of the party for a short time and alerting the rest of the dungeon to their presence. The group bravely continued onward however and were able to best a trap that unleashed a cone of cold as well as another iron archer golem.
Moving further into the temple, the group found a chamber that contained a tortured angel who was a follower of Lathander. Moved by the sight of it in pain and fear, the group chose to free it and allow it to plane shift back to it's own realm before destroying the antimagic properties of the chamber within. The group continued onward going to a level further down. Here, the group faced a couple more horrors as they were attacked by more golems with spells this time. Azim was nearly disintegrated but was able to hold on. On this lower level were several torture rooms meant to test the physical and mental limits of the creatures who had long ago been forced there. Milo explored every room being caught up in visions of his younger self being subjected to these torments along with his pack. First a room designed to bring fear almost to the point of death, then a room where starving gnolls were offered rotting and maggot infested gruel. Another room meant for sensory deprivation and darkness and a room that was meant to test the pain tolerance of the pack undergoing surgeries. In that room, Milo found an adamantine scalpel that whispered to him.
Having found some of his past memories and with a newfound rage against his captors, Milo told his plans to the rest of the group. He wasn't going to let off the red wizards easily, but would make them suffer slowly like his pack did. Unable to agree with the morals of this but still wanting to support their friend, Azim and Asano chose to leave some supplies and equipment for Milo and Roger but decided in the end to leave so as not to anger their gods.
Milo and Roger continued their journey in the lab down another level where they finally found the red wizards waiting. the leader taunted Milo and unleashed a few strong spells but was unable to pierce the defenses of him or Roger. Milo viciously attacked the leader and in the end it was only a contingency spell that saved him. The rest of the fight was drawn out and brutal as other wizards tried to slay the two. They focused on Milo casting spells that shook his very bones but in the end, their spells ran out and Roger and Milo prevailed with Milo enacting the brutal and bloody revenge he said he would with the scalpel he found. Having performed a gruesome surgery with that scalpel, it magically began to glow and one of the tattooed scalps of a red wizard combined with it to become the scalpel of gruesome surgery; Milo's legacy item. With everything done, the two returned to pick up Skellig, and were able to make it back to Tetrodora.
