The Tempest Crucible
General Summary
Azim received a letter from an alchemist he had once given a promise to, but never delivered. In answer to that letter, he went with Milo, Asano, and Roger to Dryads Mill. There, they searched through the remains of the alchemist's shop, where they found a journal, which gave them clues. Following those clues, they found a secret door leading to a hidden labyrinth. As they navigated the labyrinth and the traps it contained, Asano tried to leave a trail of bread crumbs to help know where they had been. After some time, they realized that those crumbs were being eaten by a grateful rat. After some time, they finally made their way to the end of the labyrinth, where they defeated a fire elemental and an air elemental in order to unlock an infusion of the essences of air and fire.
With this infusion in hand, the group travelled to the plane of air, to find the Ashen Cyclone, a convergence of the planes of Air and Fire where the journal said Azim would have to go to obtain the power he sought. While travelling through the plane of air, they came across a floating island with a greataxe embedded in a stone. As Azim approached, the stone ignited with flame, and a voice commanded him to cast aside the symbol of his slaving past, in order to obtain a boon from his god. After a brief battle of wills, Azim overcame Lash, the intelligent whip which had been his companion for so many adventures, and cast it into the flame, where it was consumed in holy fire. After this, Azim was able to take the axe, whereupon he was commanded to defeat a champion with it. It was at this point that a colossal dragon attacked! The party was hard pressed to defeat the dragon, but luckily for Azim, he was finally able to lay the final blow with the axe. At which point, the dragon erupted into light, and was absorbed into the axe itself, unlocking more of its power. While discussing the fight, the desiccated corpse of a sylph smashed into the ground next to Milo, splashing him with bits of rotted gore. Unfortunately, none of them knew Thyrn, so his body's fate meant nothing to them.
Moving on from there, the party made their way to the ashen cyclone, a towering spiral of gray and ember, twisting endlessly against the pale sky. At this point, Azim drank the infusion of fire and air, feeling it burn him while it urged him into the skies. With this done, he plunged his way into the cyclone. His companions watched helplessly, as at first, Azim lost control and was spun helplessly around, and around, and around the cyclone, being buffeted by terrible winds, and scorched by fire. Eventually though, Azim regained control, and made his way to the center of the storm. There, the elemental forces at work reacted with the infusion he had consumed, and changed his form, forever.
