The Desert Plague, Part 1

General Summary

In response to a call for aid from the city of Raqib, Amon-thul, Tiff, Azim and Asano met together in the Crossroad Inn in Trader's Cusp. There they made some plans about how they might aid Raqib in their time of need. While planning, Amon-thul grew impatient and decided to use greater teleport to bring the party to Raqib. Unfortunately, as part of their quarantine efforts, a teleport trap had been placed over the teleportation grounds of the city. All but Tiff made the will save and remained in the inn. Tiff found herself outside the gates of the city. Citing her fame within Abkheset as one of the heroes who brought life-giving water back to the desert, as well as the call for help she came to answer, she was given access to the city. From there she spoke to Hakim Basri, a nobleman left in charge of the city while Vizier Tawwab al-Isbili remained in the capital. Gaining some information about the plague, as well as where to go for more information, she moved on to the hospital to speak with Grand Healer Samira al-Rishani.
Meanwhile, the rest of the party decided to use a phantom chariot to travel to Raqib, since teleporting did not have the desired result. They managed to arrive after Tiff had spoken with Samira, and was on her way to inspect the 'sick' children. Tiff was able to determine that the children were not sick, they were afflicted with a spell called green caress. Amon-thul, impatient with the lack of action, tried to cure a child using dispel magic. Unfortunately, the spell backfired, and afflicted him with green caress as well. With now another patient to deal with, and desperately in need of further information, the party, minus Amon-thul, returned to the streets.
They spoke with a beggar who called himself Old Ramies. Old Ramies had spoken with Tiff earlier, but since she only gave him a few copper pieces, he held back information and only gave her clues. Now, with Azim giving him a small pile of silver, he spilled the beans about what he had seen. Namely, that cats had gotten the kids sick! Each of the children in the hospital had become afflicted with green caress after close contact with a stray cat.
As it was growing dark, the party split again. Azim and Asano made their way through the streets to find stray cats, hoping to catch the one responsible. Tiff and Kursus, Amon-thul's cohort and protector, went to the local tavern to question Old Ramies some more. Plying him with drinks, Tiff learned more about what had been happening, which is that a place with lots of beds (but wouldn't let him sleep in one) had people sticking the kids into trees. Realizing their culprit had to be a druid, they took to the alleys as well, hoping a beggar would be the druid they wanted, since they were next to an inn. Kursus drew his sword and threatened all the beggars to reveal who the druid was, and one man ran away. Chasing him down, they caught him, and he immediately claimed another one of the beggars was a druid. However, it was quickly learned that scared people will say whatever they think the source of their fear wants to hear in order to save themselves.
Meanwhile, Azim and Asano had managed to bag a couple of cats, and the party reunited. One look a the cats and Tiff knew they were just cats, and they all returned to the hospital, determined to guard the children all night, and hope to catch the one 'putting them into trees.'
